i blame jack antonoff for this tbh

at least she still has her signature sound. it doesn't sound like anything right now imo

Jack Antonoff has, on 1989, put HIS signature on some songs and it was really bothering me cuz it felt like a Bleachers song sang by Taylor..

I feel Green Light is a generic B-List artist sound about a breakup and blablalbaaaa

he's in the music video too so clearly he influenced parts of the song.

I LOVE THE BLEACHERS, but their sound should be theirs alone.

Mythos

We need to change the rules, from now on, only Taylor Swift is allowed to sing about breakup!

I'm not reading into anything except the lyrics in her song, and the experiences she publicly presents in her own life....?

Not necessarily, I mean I'm not in this girl's head. I just find it interesting that given their friendship, some of these lyrics are a large departure for her, and sound similar to Taylor's breakup songs. Clearly she's had new experiences in life, and it influenced the music, as it should.

Y'all get so damn hyphy anyone tried to compare pop stars.  :toofunny:

Its just the fact that in the industry, people always compare eachother. Lorde is her own self and on her own path. I dont think its right to compare her to anyone, she is unique. Same as when people compare Gaga to Madonna. Gaga is unique and should always be treated like that. You know what I'm saying?

She is a lot older now. She is 20 (I think) and she was 16 when she broke out. So its obvious she is gonna have a better experience in life, and if love (in this case a breakup) then she is gonna write about it in the way that she feels appropriate.

True - I wasn't a huge fan of Team at first, but it grew on me like crazy over the course of months. Maybe this one will too - funny how some songs are growers and others get you instantly and then you're done with them in a few weeks...

I love Lorde though so hope she pulls through.

antonoff co-wrote and -produced taylor's latest album, so the similarities are definitely there. you're not wrong. it's not even a question. :classy:

Well I agree and disagree. Of course everyone is on their own path, especially artists with their unique visions. And I completely agree that new life experiences (and age) has changed her style and sound. Absolutely necessary for growth.

But at the same time, Madonna has clearly influenced countless pop stars (including Gaga), and I don't think it's unfair to say Swift's style of brutal honesty when it comes to breakups MAY have influenced Lorde to speak more openly about her love life. They're close friends, and work in the same industry.

I don't think that's an unfair sentiment at all.

Im in love with the music video, it's really good.

However, the song sounds pretty basic. Not really catchy or something, but will see how it will perform.
