RadioIsOurs 13,876
I don't even ****ing get it. How can a song do so well in sales but not have any streaming presence at all? Streaming is such a flawed system; how can you let people who don't pay a single cent to listen to music decide what makes a hit? I'm so done... If it starts free falling they can just discount it again next week. That would look really bad tbh. I'd rather them just keep it and never find out lol
nick4bty 2,758
If it doesn't make callout score list tomorrow... Expecting it to be low overall but good net positive and low burnout which is what we want. Although Z100 seemingly taking it out of subpower today is not a good sign

Nothing is confirmed though, Interscope just re-posted the radio updates, and said that it was on Power Rotation which doesn't confirm that they'll add her again.. Yeah, my hunch is that they're just leaving it on because they have had it on power in the past and want to make sure other radio programmers know that to entice them to play it/add it to power as well. I do find it weird that they would keep it listed as power though just because all the other stations on the list are up to date with their playlistings. But who knows. Who knows tbh, but power --> subpower --> regular doesn't seem like a good sign to me. But KIIS seemingly keeping it in power for a 2nd straight week after they ignored it for 4 months is, on the other hand, a great sign. Maybe Z100 just doesn't want to wear it out quite yet. It still has a lot of room to grow on Top 40 afterall and the NYC Hot AC stations are spinning it a lot as well.

Streaming is such a flawed system; how can you let people who don't pay a single cent to listen to music decide what makes a hit? I'm so done... Well, it is more fair that way honestly. Hits are now based (more) on what people really listen, not what they buy. I often in the past bought songs that I only listen 3-4 times… Clearly, a purchase doesn't make a hit. A (true) hit by definition is a song who is really popular, a song that people will remember more than other songs. People won't remember songs they purchased but didn't listen to. They'll remember what they truly listen to. Charts show what songs are popular at the moment. In the past, the only way they had to see which songs were popular was radio/sales. Now we have a new metric, far more closer to reality. I think the new system is just fine and you're mad only because Gaga isn't great in streaming and that blocks her from reaching higher numbers on BB charts. If she was a streaming force however you wouldn't complain. The world is changing my dear and past doesn't mean better. CannaeDrive 3,412
I can't believe it's been already more than 5 months that Million Reasons was released only as a buzz single, and me stanning from the get go: Some of us knew that song was destined to be a hit, we were right. Million Reasons is just like Gaga, she's a fighter. "Fame Is A Boomerang" - Maria Callas

I think his point was though that streaming is basically becoming no different than radio in that certain songs are getting "playlisted" on playlists on Spotify and cheating the system. People might not want to hear the song, but they're hearing it anyway because it's on the playlist. You're absolutely right that streaming is great in that it shows you what songs people are going out of their way to listen to on-demand, but we've basically already reached the point where the music industry, in particular labels and management teams, has found out ways to manipulate it so it can positively affect an artist's chart peak. That's 10x worse than paying for Hot Tracks or a discount on iTunes, imo, because at least then people still have the choice of whether they want to spend their money on a song. Yes, I agree with you entirely. Nothing is perfect and that's a major downside of streaming. The major downside of charting in general. Not to bash Katy or anything, but look at how many of her chart peaks she's manipulated in one way, shape, or form. CTTR was the absolute worst - clear radio payola and Spotify deal bought her a number 4 peak (although you know damn well they were aiming for #1, but she bombed in sales). It's why I still think iTunes is the best way to gauge popularity among the widest audience - people of all ages buy songs on iTunes, but streaming has so far only appealed to a young, urban audience, which is why so many urban songs have charted high this and last year. Pandora is the only streaming platform that caters to a wide audience for some reason. That's why MR is doing so well on iTunes and Pandora, and thankfully both are included in BB's formula.
