PeterPan 0
The Runner up Spoiler #2 COOL 9.23 High Scores: @Britney Spears @Dr Evil @TeenIdle @arctikstorm – 11 And Ten 10's Low Scores: @gagaphrodisy – 6 Comments: Spoiler This luscious song recalls Gwen's relationship with ND bassist Tony Kanal - after years and years post-break up, they're able to sustain a healthy and cordial friendship. It's one of the most beautiful of the record, and the video is truly cinematic. All in all, one of the album's strongest moments. @jujubae It just reminds me of the mid-2000's so much Beautiful. @sizzily Here comes my fave Gwen song. One of the catchiest ballads i ever heard. Excellent lyrics and her vocals shine on this track. ABSOLUTE @Dr Evil Whenever I hear Cool it makes me lowkey depressed that I don't have a (hot) man to sing this about. It's weird how a cute upbeat bop like Cool can be simultaneously so sad?? But nonetheless I adore it and it's one of my all-time faves by Gwen. @narcoswing Gwen literally tells amazing stories in a way that the masses can listen and appreciate it. Probably gets it from being in an alternative band for so long, where the story and music > bling. @sychosochic THE WINNER Spoiler # 1. WHAT YA WAITIN FOR? 9.95 High Scores: @jujubae @MisterGaga @Adampervez @Ophelia @narcoswing @Reginald @Taka @MonsterJames333 @The Fame Joanne- 11 And Twelve 10's Low Scores: @monsterdino - 6 Comments: Spoiler My absolute favorite song of all time. 13 years later, it is still fresh as the first time I heard it. The instrumental is a banging Euro-house composition that escalates the energy of the song to atmospheric proportions. The chorus is an earworm that won't leave your mind ever; the autobiographical lyrics, describing Stefani's departure from No Doubt and her anxieties about beginning a solo career, are deeply touching (true No Doubt fans will hear a familiar lyric from an older ND song, so that Easter egg is quite a treat). And, to top it all off, the video is a surreal Alice-meets-Pop Superstar extravaganza that rivals even Bad Romance. I don't think a song will ever top WYWF, at least not for me. @jujubae First bop we come to on this album, simply amazing @craigbarnes I really love the transition from the piano start to a club banger. It's very catchy and fresh till now. @Dr Evil The first track on the album is also the best. It's not only an introduction to the album, but also it's centerpiece, what defines it. All the other songs, and the whole concept of the album revolves around this song. From the very beggining (brilliant acoustic introduction) she clarifies that she's alone now (What an amazing time*, What a family, How did the years go by? now it's only me), this album is Gwen's, and it has nothing to do with No Doubt (tho some musical influences of the band appear here and there). It talks about her fears and insecurities (Your moment will run out. 'Cause of your sex chromosome, I know it's so messed up how our society all thinks - this is just genius. She had 35 by the time L.A.M.B. was released, and she knew her time* was coming (and seeing her career now a days, she wasn't wrong)). She anticipated her future, and decided to take a chance (you stupid *****) and release her material before it was too late. Tick Tock Tick Tock*. The video talks just about that (especially the extended version, which i strongly recomend to understand the whole concept): she personalizes Alice, who follows the clock*, and suddenly discovers a crazy and insane world (wonderland). That world is what Gwen discovers inside of her, knowing what she was capable of doing (life is short, you're capable; take a chance cause you might grow); and she invited us to see it, her own wonderland, full of Harajuku Girls. Great opener track, smart lyrics, the best video, and Gwen's vocals are at their peak here; she does the pop mannerisms better than britney herself (idk how to explain it, like when she includes those...moans/little screams (0:51 - 1:41), they made the song so catchy and so memorable; as RAWM was the pop song of 2015 and Into You, the one of 2016, WYWF was definitely the 2004's one). The production...beyond incredible. Irresistible, electrifying. It's still so fresh, not for present days because it doesn't follow the tropical/house trend, but it fits perfectly on the 2009/10 pop circa. This it what 'ahead of it's time' means. Did you heard those gongs at the end? Gong, musical instrument originating in Asia. Asia? Tokyo. Remember the harajuku girls? Those girls, who also appear in the music video? And on the album cover, where Gwen is stylized as a modern Marilyn Monroe (americana mainstream) mixed with a geisha? It's all connected. This is genius. The whole album doesn't need more than this song and it's video. The rest is a very nice and enjoyable filler. What is TFM without Bad Romance? L.A.M.B. without What You Waiting For? Nothing. And let's not talk about the big shades to the music industry. Ageism, sexism and economical pressures, the pressure of being #1 (Your moment will run out, 'Cause of your sex chromosome - LOOK AT YOUR WATCH* NOW!, YOU'RE STILL A SUPER HOT FEMALE!, YOU GOT YOUR MILLION DOLLAR CONTRACT!, AND THEY'RE ALL WAITING FOR YOUR HOT TRACK!). What You Waiting For, 11/10. #FunFact: What You Waiting For? music video was directed by Francis Lawrence, the same guy who directed gaga's bad romance. That guy is also genius. @MisterGaga My. Wig. Is. Levitating. It's insane how good this song is. I never get tired of hearing it, and I could have it on repeat for hours. The video has a really cool storyline and the Alice in Wonderland theme fits it quite nicely. @Narcoswing
