Was Natalie Portman snubbed an Oscar?

I honestly knew that she wouldn't have won but I've seen all the films nominated for Best Actress and I tell you, she deserves this more than Emma Stone. Don't get me wrong, Emma was phenomenal but NATALIE, damn she DELIVERED in this role.

I mean, she deserves an OSCAR just for that trailer alone.

I'll forever stay pressed :madge:

Has anyone else seen this movie? Thoughts?

Everyone was snubbed tbh
Literally everyone had a better role and was a better actress than Emma Stone.
Like HOW? Emma is great but really?

Natalie Portman already has an Oscar. This is just how the Oscars work, lots of little rules and if you fit the bill that year, congrats!

Love Emma Stone though! Glad she won!

I had a feeling she wasn't going to win because she wasn't there. Honestly if Emma Stone can win an Oscar I have high hopes for Gaga in ASIB.

Let it be the Oscars or Grammys, some consideration is given for popularity of the movies and actors involved. It's not 100% based on the actual merits of the work itself.

I mean Dark Horse was nominated for a Grammy over Do What U Want when Gaga's vocal delivery and the production of that song were acclaimed. Dark Horse was complimented but not as acclaimed as Do What U Want was, it was nominated because of how popular it was. Not to mention the lack of video for Do What U Want contributed to its lack of nomination.

I have watched Jackie and she was phenomenal and her character was much more believable than Stone's naggy breathy singer. But Portman already had an Oscar with Black Swan, so they need to give it either to Stone or Huppert (same way that Affleck won against Washington in Best Actor). The problem is nobody saw Huppert's film. Stone just ran with La La Land's fame.

I still liked Stone tho, but she was even better in Birdman than in LLL.

Indeed, I agree that Natalie as Jackie was far more amazing and inspiring.

I don't think Emma was undeserving of the award, but Ruth, Natalie, and Isabelle just haven't been talked about nearly as much as they should have been. Like no consideration was even given to them because everyone just assumed Emma would win.

I personally think Taraji was the most snubbed (although I'm not sure if she's considered lead vs. supporting) actress of the night. Like.............did Meryl really need to be nominated for Florence Foster Jenkins

That whole film was snubbed, I've seen all the nominees and la la land was the most underwhelming of them all. The only reason it did so well is because of the Fred and ginger throwback it gives off

None of them blew me away. I was actually very annoyed by how Natalie Portman was speaking in Jackie. It sounded fake and too try-hard to me...

The only snub critics and hopefully movie fans will talk about in years to come is Isabelle Huppert losing to Emma Stone.

What the ****?

Back to Portman - her performance was pretty polarizing, people either praised the **** out of it (deservingly so), or despised it.
