Many of the best picture nominations were far better films than Moonlight. But like I've been saying, Moonlight is about a gay black guy, drug addiction, abusive parents, and told over the span of a few decades. It almost reminds me of the episode of American Dad where Roger makes a film about a young, jewish, mentally handicapped guy with cancer, titled "Oscar Gold". They are black, grew up in the projects, had crack addicted moms who both had AIDS, (in fact one began writing this story his first year in college, when his Mom died of AIDS related illnesses), didn't know their fathers and one is gay. I'm sorry that you don't believe that people actually live this way, but these two screenwriters were just writing about their lives. Yeah, they had a lot of disadvantages, but they obviously found a way to make it out...and to tell their stories in a meaningful way. Their lives are not some Family guy joke. Wtf I know it's based on the life of the author, when did I ever say I don't believe that? Just because it's based on a true depressing story STILL doesn't keep it from being Oscar bait and STILL doesn't mean it was a better FILM than the others, which is what the award was for.
