Revisiting Perfect Illusion

I'm so happy about this mature discussion. Tbh, I was kinda put-off on posting here, due to the whole Joanne bash from "fans" who STILL don't get that she is a true, timeless chameleon artist that will change every era. OR (I don't want to offend anyone), I see PI bashing from people that became fans during ARTPOP (???) and hate BTW (???).

I would like to encourage NEW fans and stans to listen again carefully to her discography from the first album, and also, -I cannot stress this enough- her old interviews, which show integrity.

On Topic: Perfect Illusion is my favorite 1st single from an album, and one of my favorite songs in history <3

Very Electric Chapel meets Bad Romance in a BTW-light way! I still listen to it every day!

:music::music::music::rockstar::rockstar::rockstar:

EDIT: Okay, I am also a messy queer who lives for drama, so here is my PetPeeve: I am THIRSTY for a Born this Way 2.0, but for current political themes. BTW was the first album which focused on LGTB and being yourself, and everyone followed. Now that our society becomes more conservative, it is imperative that Gaga must put out a political album against the global conservatism, scare tactics and BS that float around. Not so much about Identity Politics anymore, but more hippie-but-radical Anti-Capitalist propaganda. That would make me bald.

You really took the words out of my mouth lmao. Slay. I'm here for a new Born This Way. Born This Way was a big deal for me because at the time she was the #1 artist worldwide by far, and she used the peak of her influence for the gays which was incredible.

If she put out a political album now I'd personally love it, but I feel like it wouldn't be as consequential. I don't think Gaga is even that plugged in to the current political climate. I'm not sure she would know what to say. To end this tangent/rant I just hope we have another huge pop savior album whether or not it's Gaga, I can feel it coming. All the pop stars are pissed rn about Trump. Use it, hun-Ts.

Whenever I listen to Joanne in the car, I find myself putting on Perfect Illusion literally every single time before I listen to any other song on the album. I laaaahv it. I turn the volume up til it's maxed. It's not a flawless song, it's a hot mess but there's something so epic and Roxette about it.

Ryusei

one of her best bridges that's for sure. I love the "Where were you cause I can't see but I feel you watching me..."

I really really really really really want to like this song, but for some reason I just can't. The verses are beautiful, but I cannot get myself to enjoy the chorus at all. I want to love it, and I wish I could see what you guys are saying, but to me it is still the weakest song on Joanne.

Why the GP let this masterpiece flop is a mystery :fthis:

Gaga didn't promote this song on TV though.

I liked it when it got released, but when the album came out the song grew up on me when I listened to it along with the rest of the tracks. It's a cool song. Period.

It's a masterpiece and I blast it in my car while screaming the chorus. All my friends love it too along with MR.

I almost wish we could have heard PI within the context of the album first rather than as a lead single. Honestly, I feel like JW or DH would have been a perfect lead single.

I'm really hoping Perfect illusion is the opending track to the Joanne Tour. Could you imagine the lights going dark and then hearing that guitar screech.....it would be legendary
