Katharine Hepburn 4,607
I remember being so annoyed and upset that TIHTY was blocked by something as basic and meh as WOTW. I think there are many factors that caused this to happen by certain people putting TIHTY last in voting. However to understand why is so important in a film winning we need to understand how voting works (explained in this video): Okay so why did certain groups put TIHTY last or lower than most people would? 1. The writers - academy members may not have taken Lady Gaga seriously due to her iconic moments earlier in her career and Diane is outspoken and awkward so Hollywood insiders may be biased against her. 2. The subject matter - If you recall Gaga explaining how men in music held influence over her and left her vulnerable, that can be applied to the film industry too especially around child actors. Hollywood insiders may have friends who have had rape claims against them which the voter would have bad connotations with and punish the song because of this (because they would believe their friend is innocent). 3. Linda Perry - Linda tweeted that Gaga didn't compose enough of the song to warrant a nomination so academy voters might have tried to block Gaga getting the Oscar by putting her last 4. Less Exposure - Of the nominated songs, only Earned It and WOTW were from blockbuster movies the voters would be familiar with or be likely to have seen. The academy should be less biased for best original song with ASIB but she'll be up against the team from Frozen and Lin Manuel Miranda xoxo Joanne

robboadam 2,226
Apparently Oscar voters also just vote really quickly for the Original Song, they don't listen to all the songs previously, and apparently just go for the one they recognise from the list......hence the Bond song. Mister Gaga 22,913
I seriously don't know. She was robbed. Even the blind & tasteless GP, which rarely supports Gaga, came in her defence when she lost. Sam Smith himself, who gave an awful performance, seemed embarrassed to win over Gaga. I perfectly remember the audience reaction. No one applauded him. No one. I seriously don't know what the **** were they thinking. There's a possibility that, somehow, Diane turned them off, after her statements (or her personality in general). Gaga was/is still very polarizing. But, well, she'll have one some day. Bookmark me. And the honour will be bigger, because she'll have 1 win and 2 nominations. She'd already have a legacy.
Pierre 10,480
Also, I don't know if you guys remember Diane posted a pic casting her vote, the names of the singer/witter don't appear on the ballout. Just the title of the song and title of the movie-documentary. 007 was way popular than THG. ❝Is not blue, not turquoise, not lapis. It's actually cerulean❞. But I could see why some people may not like it. You kind of have to understand the specifics of it. Why didn't you like it? Also, the Oscars are always weird. But I remember Goldderby was expecting her to win, so who knows. I doubt anyone even really listened to the nominated songs or actually cared. djBuffoon 12,120
I think the answer is pretty simple: Spectre was a huge studio film that didn't have much hope of winning in any other category, so the studio put money behind campaigning for the song. Sorcerer 12,507
Basically it was all popularity. I want Audition (Fools Who Dream) to win this year to make up for Gaga's tragic ballad. But City of Stars will win because it is the catchiest. And I want Moonlight or something else to win Best Picture to break the popularity contest in the Oscars.
