AlyM 137
It's not unfair to say a lot of Joanne is not "radio friendly". Pop music on the radio is mostly chill vocals with edm or tropical beats and mixed influences of hip hop and pop rock. Gaga belting out lyrics about her sexual assault and daddy issues doesn't fit in to that mold at all and it's a shame. Pop radio could really use some sonic diversity - The Chainsmokers ruling the charts for so long and winning grammys suggest pop music really is very low brow at the moment. All that being said, there was a time when her dance music wasn't what radio wanted and she eventually broke through with Just Dance, right? 2017 would legitimately go down in history as her greatest year if the radio smartened up and let her influence another shift in pop with her thoughtful lyrics and eclectic influences on Joanne. Because right now radio really couldn't be more stagnant and boring.

It isn't at all It sounds too in your face and scream-y This new generation that became the teens since Gaga debuted love more chill, laid back atmospheric sounds. Joanne has none of that. Only Dancing in Circles resembles it a little
StrawberryBlond 14,855
The biggest part is that she isn't deemed cool anymore. Don't know why. She continues to make songs about sex and drugs. Since when was that not considered cool? The radio only seems to play songs by artists that would be considered cool by the youth market. And Gaga threw that image out the window with BTW. She became too weird, too dark, too much of a gay icon. The public couldn't connect with someone like that. And once the connection is severed, it's pretty much not coming back. The radios are terrified to take a risk by playing her music again. As if they can't just play the song and surprise people at the end by saying that it's Gaga. If the charts have taught you anything it's that name recognition isn't what it used to be and that anyone can get a hit right now, if the song connects. So, there should be no fear in taking a risk. But radio stations refuse to budge as they're too scared to lose listeners if they play somebody who isn't 'in' right now. Honestly, these days, if there's anything that would make me turn off these stations, it would be playing any of the biggest songs by the biggest names. For God's sake, we've heard them umpteen times already. The song has fufilled its purpose months ago, why are we still hearing it? In my parents day, radios used to play new music. They played new songs as they came through every couple of weeks and they certainly wouldn't play old hits from years ago. But now, it's all change. Radio has lost its way. Can't wait until it becomes obsolete.
