ARTPOP VS. Joanne - Stats?

Disclaimer: I am not a Little Chartster and on a personal level, her sales do not impact my experience of her as an artist at all. So long as she is happy and making music; I am happy, too :excited2:

The reason for this thread comes off the back of a recent BillBoard article discussing how pop radio has boycotted Beyonce. I mean, the hypocrisy is real... why do they not stand up for Gaga in this way? I read that ARTPOP actually outsold Lemonade, too.

Anyways, I digress. Basically, I just wanted to know where Joanne stands in comparison to ARTPOP so far. I wondered if it's sales could be the reason why radio is neglecting her. From what I've seen though, it's selling far and beyond what any other pop girl has achieved in the past year. I just don't get it.

If Joanne is comparatively selling more than ARTPOP, then I truly can't fathom why radios and streaming services are neglecting Gaga. I do not understand. There is clear demand for her music.... she's literally just achieved a Top 5 BB hit, yet still is being ignored. If the sales are as good as what I've heard, then surely radios would in fact benefit from playing her music?

I guess I'm just trying to put together an image in my head of Joanne's success (because to me, I consider ARTPOP a hit) and trying to correlate this with her industry treatment.

2013 is very different from 2017 in terms of sales. The charts are now dominated by streaming, which is not Gaga's biggest force.

Taking into account numbers, Joanne sold 1mil for 4 months approximately. ARTPOP sold the same amount in 4 weeks.

People here thinking the Joanne era is a flop are so delusional. Learn a bit about charts please.

OT: The thing is she screwed her chances when she released PI and no one liked it, after that they are reluctant to play her music and she needs to build a relationship with radio again. MR is on the right track baby.

I don't know about sales. But this Joanne era is far more substantial as a fan, we're getting more and better visuals, performances, the music is better, she seems happy and consistent and I'm so pleased for her and from a fan point of view things seem to be going really well I'm so excited to see her live.

Mister Gaga

The thing is that Joanne has no radio friendly songs. Million Reasons might be, a bit, but still, it's not the average song that you would listen on radio.

So, the only way for Joanne to sell, is when gaga performs it songs live, because she doesn't have the biggest promo of them all: radio. That's why Joanne reacts so good and fast to live promo. It has been selling well because of it.

ARTPOP, despite having many experimental songs, has it's radio friendly songs too (Applause, which was a WW little hit, DWUW, Gypsy). ARTPOP sold strong on it's first weeks thanks to a much bigger fanbase than today (and it's still big enough to make gaga #1 no matter what, for at least one week (PI); see what's happenning with katy, who doesn't have a big fanbase; she relies more on the GP); a song on the radio, and she was still kinda new (yes, she was only 5 years into her career; now she has 9, she already has her audience).

ARTPOP sold kinda 'well' (didn't flop completely) because of her inmense fanbase and Applause being on radio.

Joanne exceeded expectations because of the GP and live performances. That's why, commercially, it's a step up (imo).

ARTPOP is somewhere at 3.4m-3.5m (shipments and SPS)

Joanne is at 1m

But we truly can't compare them....

another shot before we kiss the other side
