Spock 20,290
So, as part of my course in uni I have to take modules on media. This semester I'm taking Celebrities and Media Culture and last week's lesson was about celebrities and how they connect with people/fans. And this theory was dropped on me: Three degrees of celebrity worship Entertainment-social dimension: Benign relationship Intense –personal dimension: Compulsive nature towards celebrities; obsessive Borderline pathological: fantasies and un-manageable behaviours It was also interspersed with pictures of little girls and grown men crying and holding signs and **** (at that point I started laughing because it was too real) I would say most of us don't have a "benign relationship" with Gaga here lol. I mean, me for example, I basically blew all my money last week on concert tickers, slept on the street for her shows, waited for hours and hours at her hotel, followed her across London, think about her pretty often, think about what I'm going to say to her, am in the process of downloading pictures and shoots and videos for my Gaga folder, cut school for her etc etc. So idk if I'm in denial, but I wouldn't say I'm borderline pathological but at the same time my connection with her feels a bit more than "compulsive" and "obsessive" Are we all going to end up in the mad house? who will love me when the night is over
SamJ 8,008
I love pop culture, Gaga is my fav, I've been to the artrave and have tickets for Joanne world tour, I'm just a very enthusiastic fan who likes lots of pop stars a lot but I put my own life first. Following my idols is just a side hobby for me but probably my biggest one. I'm fine I'm fine
kvnrp 48,353
I'm just stanning for Gaga, every other celeb is pretty much uninteresting for me I make some promo for ha around my friends when appropriate, but that's it But I won't ever spend hundreds of dollars on her, even for concert tickets Either she comes to my city or bust But I hate the worshipping of celebs, for example the Kardashians, with a passion Same goes with Reality TV (except for Drag Race ), Social Media and on and on. 2 minutes ago, Spock said: Are we all going to end up in the mad house? sarahb 16,612
I use this as a form of entertainment, like playing a game or reading a book. If I'm unhealthy then my dad must be too because I think he's 'stans' for his favourite rugby league team just as much or more than I stan for Gaga I mean I am on this forum a lot but it's just so damn entertaining lately It's exciting opening up this forum and not knowing what I'm gonna read so I guess it's addicting that way Do you feel him sir? heda97 2,399
But really, I'm not super obsessed with anyone but myself yes I adore lady gaga and she's an idol to me, however I know she has her own life to live and I have mine. I can participate in anything she invites us to herself (concerts, festivals, performances) but anything beyond that is off limits for me because I respect her privacy as a human, also at the end of the day she is just a human who found a very lucrative and successful career for herself and along the way managed to uplift a whole generation of people to be who they are, and I can celebrate that everyday! Chicka 2,385
I guess I've turned being a fan into a hobby. Which may be unhealthy, but as long as you don't forget she's just a person and remember to only worship her work and her public persona (opposed to her personal life and the details about it cough cough getting significantly upset about who she does or doesn't date) then I think it's normal and fun. Oh good this makes me feel better because I don't really give a damn about who she dates or her personal life much at all. Do you feel him sir? AlphaMonster 1,806
I think I have the benign sort of relationship. I might only be compulsive about thinking about touring ideas. I created stage productions in the past, I just find the idea fascinating. I imagined the same for other artists in my mind or on paper in the past too. I personally find 2nd and 3rd degree of celebrity worshipping unhealthy but at the same time I am glad that lots of little monsters are at these levels. Those are the level of fans that separate most rock bands from pop acts like Rihanna, Katy Perry, Taylor Swift etc. We can all agree that no other pop act has a fan forum that is as active as GGD. Those level of fans buy records, fill up arenas regardless of what. That's why Joanne, literally no one of GP heard at the time, sold that much in its first week, that does not happen to Rihanna for example.
KingOfSpain 10,010
If I wouldn't stan Gaga I would be eating hamburguers and pizzas all day and smoking 30 cigarettes a day so I could calm my anxiety and I would be dead soon. So no. Actually Gaga saved my life. What a queen. http://gagadaily.com/forums/topic/227246-ceremony-gagas-videography-megarate/
Popo 3,781
It's unhealthy when you start crying when your fav farts. It's okay if stanning gaga doesn't interfere with your day-to-day activities
Justo 1,192
It's weird but Lady Gaga is literally the only artist I'm "stanning" for (and with that I mean the benign relationship in the entertainment-social dimension). Before she was famous, I literally didn't give two shits about pop music at all but then she came onto the scene and I was intrigued and became a fan. It wasn't until around the time she released her album Born This Way (I came out to my family as gay on the same day she released that album worldwide I personally believe she saved my life with it because I was so depressed when I found out I was gay and then she managed to create an album in which she preaches about loving yourself and that there's nothing wrong with being "different". She literally saved my life with it and for that I'm forever grateful) that I dedicated my Tumblr blog to her and visited websites about her all the time. But now that period of my stanning life has passed and I am more calm when it comes to Gaga. I never became an intense or obsessive fan, I respect her life and her privacy and I can't stand it when some fans literally stalk the living daylights out of her. It's a good thing I'm living in the Netherlands and not in the USA so that's one less dilemma for me. That aside, Lady Gaga is the only artist I'm following everything of. I enjoy other artists as well but I couldn't care less about what they're doing all the time and I don't keep myself up-to-date about their new music and all of that. SychosSoChic 9,995
Sycophantic fans, and fans who live their lives through their fans are unhealthy. Gaga is not your mother, and she is not your slave. She is a woman who sings and dances a little, and if the mood takes her, plays the piano. Literally the furthest I've ever gone to stan for Gags is join this cult site, and that is the extent I will go to. Oh and every monster who calls her mom or mommy cringe Life ain't Hollywood for any one of us.
