Anyone else...?

Is anyone else kind of pressed that Million Reasons wasn't the lead single off of Joanne? It's already becoming successful and Gaga's signature ballad, but I think if it was chosen as the lead everything would have been better. It would have definitely set the tone for a different era, both music-wise and sound-wise, and Gaga would have been praised for making such a bold desicion, a decision that would have obviously paid off since MR is (almost) universally liked and has already peaked at #4 in the hot100.

Even commercially it would have been the best decision. Released as the the lead the song would have probably debuted/peaked in the top3, and would have become one of Gaga's most sold songs and one of her biggest hits. It honestly amazes me how much commercial potential this ballad has/had, it's almost kinda sad her label didn't pick it as the first single. The song doing great would have also increased Joanne's  (already very strong) sales.

What do you think :gaycat:

Not really no. PI had some TF elements that eased the transition to a country-tinged ballad that people would have ignored right off the bat. Even now we needed the SB before the GP paid good attention

No because I'm not a chartser.

Also it's becoming her signature ballad because it has been her only ballad released as single. Some of us prefer her other ballads, even others on Joanne, to Million reasons. Most people don't know of her non-single songs. The only other ballads probably even maybe even known about is Hair (which barely is considered a ballad) and Speechless.

Agree. This song would've done amazing things as the lead. Can you imagine where we'd be if MR had the radio deal that PI had?

Yes, i've been saying that since she released MR. It would've been the perfect comeback single for this era and we wouldnt be dealing with the radio boycott

PI really hurt gaga's relationship with radio stations

This! A lot of people here disagree because they are not little chartsers, which I totally understand, but as a little chartser I have to say MR would have been the PERFECT comeback! I'll never understand how PI was chosen as the lead even though I love the song

Forreal this is the music INDUSTRY. You don't have to be obsessed with the charts, but you should take it into consideration.

I still think Perfect Illusion is the best song on Joanne. Just ahead of its time I guess.

Just like good sis ARTPOP

GGD woulda been a mess if a ballad was the lead. :air:

I'm sure if Gaga were to release MR as the lead she would have prepared people that a ballad was coming :poot:

GGD wouldn't be a mess after seeing the top3 debut :poot:

Yeah but we had just come off the TIHTY era that followed the C2C era. The meltdowns :air:

You & I is her other biggest ballad after her VMA performance as Jo Calderone and the success it got as a single in the US.

Thinking of Hair as a ballad is funny because I just remember raving to the studio version haha
