Why is queen Shakira so underrated?

Why does everyone say she never made it in the US? She had two very successful eras there. And she's also big in Europe and Latin America. Her peak in the early to mid 2000s was huge

Shakira undderated ?

I think you must be living in US,thinking no one exist outside.Otherwise please don't worry cos Shakira is not underrated.I sometimes feel overrated cos no peers of hers is in the same category with her. They put her in the top spot and I dont know why.(of course i mean worldwide, not only US)

Cos I've lived in 4 different countries and Shakira was like legend, queen.Really there was difference in her status.

Beyonce was like Rihanna or JLo.Avarage pop girl.So US is not the only country in the world.almost 7.5 billion people exist :)

Its a fact.

Shakira and Wyclef sampled Wyclef's old track and because it was his track, they thought that they would be allowed to use it in the song since it was his sample.

So what if she makes movies? :rip: Does that excuse her being a puppet in the music industry? She really didn't know that Ashanti's vocals were in her songs? Did she really have so little involvement in her projects?  Many other artists have multiple things going on as well and you don't see them put out entire stolen songs and melodies :awkney:

People keep throwing the word puppet around but Diana Ross, Whitney Houston, Cher and countless others who don't write or produce their own songs are not puppets. Lol JLo has had a very specific sound that has been present in all her albums. She loves the 80's and freestyle music. Frequently she has a throw back sound and even video ideas that pay homage to that decade. Obviously those were her ideas and input, but did she have the time to produce or write her own music back when she was doing two or three movies a year. Nope.  I don't really understand why this thread even mentions JLo in the first place.

Madonna - Open Your Heart was originally written for Cyndi Lauper. Cyndi didn't even get a chance to hear the song before it was given to Madonna. Also see Madonna VS Ingrid Chavez

Fergie - Glamorous and Gwen Stefani Luxurious is basically the same song.

Katy Perry VS Sarah Bareilles

And countless others.

1. She's not underrated. Everyone in the world knows who she is.

2. She's not the queen of Latin pop. Paulina Rubio is.

3. Her music has become generic trash.

I believe this is a fairly common thing in the music industry, less famous/to be artists get their songs "stolen" for the bigger acts (see Lina Morgana/Lady Gaga)

you can't really blame JLo for that, she doesn't seem to be that involved in her music at least not back then and as that girl said Puff Daddy was the one who came for that song not JLo, so

Did it really happen with gaga?

So at least we can agree with j Lo being a puppet. I don't know of a singer who would record and listen to the final version of their songs without hearing someone who wasn't with them in the studio/wasn't featured in the background or even in the main vocals

Because someone tried to downgrade Shakira in a Shakira thread...

Also I was specifically talking about the scandals in which others had songs/melodies stolen from them? :oprah: Like how do you not realize another person who wasn't featured on the song/never had studio time with is on the song?

I think it's because she hasn't had any huge hits in years, and she started off with a few of the biggest hits of the decade

Well, she is only known in the US for "Waka Waka" and maybe that song from Zootopia, she is never in major awards shows, so how do you expect people to praise her in the US?

but I love her, her early work is my favorite

Because she's generally a Latin Pop star not a Global star. Just cause she did the Waka Waka song for the FIFA World Cup doesn't automatically make her a Global star. She's far from that still :nails:

OMG I didn't know this. This has proper shocked me haha!

Whilst she isn't everywhere, she's pretty big in the U.K., obviously not on the current pop girl level, or like Kylie level of fame/adoration, but pretty much everyone here will know who she is and know a good few songs. I took it for granted that she was the same everywhere

Her older stuff like Donde Estan Los Ladrones and Pies Descalzos are actually genius musically. I see her as a bit of a sell out ever since She Wolf. I really feel like she lost her spark. Her music has been sounding less and less authentic for years now and Chantaje is just embarassing when compared to magnitude of her pre-She Wolf work in Spanish or English...

Even my uncle who was big Shakira fan in his teens agrees that she sold out just to fit the music market and sounds like everyone else. He even pointed out that it's like she is trying to sound more commercial 'cause she is not using that weird - read awesomely unique - vibrato she did when she was brand new to the industry, like up to Oral Fixation I think.

Excuse me but She Wolf, Waka Waka, Loca, Rabiosa, Can't Remember To Forget & Chantaje are bops! :classy:

Mister Gaga

She might not be that popular among fan bases / stan bases, but i can assure you she has an immense cultural relevance; she has the most recognizable voice among the pop girls & her dance moves are legendary...

Hips don't lie, Waka Waka, Whenever, Whenever...they're not just hits, they are cultural events. Like Bad Romance was on it's time, or Baby One More Time. Her hits transcended radio. And she's a GP darling, like Adele. Everyone loves her, she's above, and anyone who denies it it's just delusional.

The Child

I think her latest album, the self titled one really killed the momentum she had with Sale El Sol (which I think is her best album).

She always does that, she killed the momentum she had thanks to Oral Fixation by releasing She Wolf (the album not the song, the song slays hard).

Honestly, apart from Can't Remember To Forget You, Empire was bad & La La La was so generic. But since Chantaje I've gained more hope for her.

She just needs to promote herself more in US award shows to get more exposure and she needs to release more albums, she always waits like 3 or 4 years or even more.

She is not controversial, that's why she's not "popular" in the sense that she's not talked about, but she is played worldwide, both her old and new songs appeal massively

No hun..have you even read the OP. JLo was mentioned in a derogatory way in the OP. No one commenting on the thread mention JLo except as a response specifically to the OP.

Also like I said before JLo is not a musician or producer. She just laid her voice in a track for her first couple albums. That's how you do not notice that those songs were for someone else. She was busy with other projects. Albums and music is her side gig.

I've just been getting into her again recently! Chantaje and La Bicicleta are MASTERPIECES. Also the classics like La Tortura, Hips Don't Lie, and Objection
