And the way things are looked at now, was not the same exact way then... There wasn't SJW culture & everybody ready to end your career at the slightest offense or perceived offense. Which is why she has done a lot of cultural appropriation. Because back then it wasn't seen as an issue, like it is now. Standards are just different today… And apparently like some of the rest of us, she just needs to catch up! Exactly. Things weren't the same then, but she didn't make those comments then, she made them yesterday. I guess she does need to catch up. It's not a SJW thing, it's just called being respectful to someone that has gone through a tremendously tough situation. Perpetuating the idea that it's fun to laugh about these things on camera in front of millions of people with a smile on your face is dangerous imo and she should apologise. Dominic 11,922
I think it's something that we've all said or similar things but Katy just did it on national TV. Stupid mistake is all. Dark and innocent jokes are fine but when you're a huge star it's probably wise to avoid making them on the red carpet. The hardest thing in this world is to live in it
River 117,733
It's not just Britney, it's also her kids, they know what happened, they can't really avoid it and to hear someone famous like Katy joking about their mother on tv, can really hurt them and damage them.. Just imagine Katy joking on tv about Gaga's eating disorders or rape, how would you feel, how would Gaga feel? So sploosh your juice all over me you Riverboy

Well as someone who suffers from mental illness myself(Depression, Severe OCD, Anxiety, etc.), her off handed remark didn't bother me none & I personally don't think she needs to apologize quite honestly... But that's just me. And I meant the severe response to what she said has definite elements of SJW culture quite honestly!!! What she said may have not been in the best light(with today's standards), but some people wanting her career to end because of this isn't either... Egypt. Well as someone who also suffers, it did bother me. The fact it was so off handed especially bothered me since it made me realise how normal and acceptable it still is to make jokes about it. Wanting someone to apologise for making an offensive remark is not "SJW culture" and shouldn't be reduced to that. Worse than SJW culture is that label being slapped on things that do genuinely need to be addressed and discussed. It's a term with negative connotations and shuts down any real conversation when in some cases, it's actually needed. I'm not saying you're using it in that way, of course, but I really don't think it is that.

Shadow 6,638
Amen, Britney! What a way to lay down the Bible on someone who supposedly started out as a Christian singer. Katy got some soul searching to do. Stand in the light, cast your shadow.

Ya need to stop talking about Britney like she got a lobotomy or something. Britney did a Jonathan Ross interviews last year and some parts were edited off like how she talked about her conservatorship and she finally found a happy medium. She also talked about how she's aware of the criticism she gets from her album, performances and shade throw by other artists but she stays above the fray and ignores it. I just think Britney doesn't care much. Britney overcame so much in 2007 and her other meltdown in 2010. If she can battle through those years then a shady comment by a pathetic person like Katy Perry won't even phase Britney. Do you have the receipts of the Jonathan Ross interview being edited? ‘If religion be the cause of disunity, then irreligion is surely to be preferred.’ ‘Abdu’l-Bahá

The reason people bring up or use SJW in a casual sentence, or debate all the time is because people literally wanna know where is the line drawn?? I mean if I say that I don't want to be a vegan, the next thing you know I got vegans all up and down my back trying to come for me! I mean literally where is the line drawn nowadays…?? Smh Egypt. Smh Okay but that's a terribly extreme example that is absolutely not comparable to this incident in any way If you can't see the vast middle ground between laughing at mental illness and attacking someone over their diet choice then... idk what to tell you lol. I see & I can accept if it goes beyond the pale! But with the way things are heading in our culture, a few years from now you might be able to even say the words mental illness on live television. That might seem extreme to us right now, but seeing as how things have so rapidly changed in the past decade so far... I can sooo see that happening!!! Going back to the 50's where you can even say certain words on tv or in public. So like I previously said, where do we(as a culture) draw the line at!??? Egypt. SlaeUrAnus 16,010
Joking about mental health is NOT a joke. This was undoubtedly Britney's lowest point. She was overworked, used and exposed. That comment was bang out of order and I am glad she "responded" in a gracious way. In my messy era.
