You are assuming that a 69¢ discounted price will lead to an increase of sales of 200%. The discounted price might sway a percentage of the GP to buy the song but that percentage isn't going to be 200%. If it was then MR would probably be platinum by now.  69¢ will convince the people on the fence about buying the song to buy it. The same people who were going to buy it regardless of price will buy it and the people who don't like the song and weren't going to buy the song won't buy it or download it even if it were free. The percentage increase of likely buyers that will buy the song at 69¢ is not going to be 200% that's just not likely. Also alot of the increase in sales for a discounted song is because of the front page exposure of iTunes under the discounted song section. If all song were at 69¢ there would not be that front page exposure. Anyways I'm done talking about discounts.

u mean an increase of 100%

cause an increase of 200% of the initial sales means triple the sales

exemple if S is the number of sales : S + S*200%=3S

Artists earn money by touring. They don't depend on single sales that much. Plus why do we care about Gaga's profit now? She's filthy rich anyway :awkney:

Some artists get top 10s because people actually buy their song and some get a top 10 because their label basically buys Hot 100 points with the max radio and Spotify payola. If I was an artist, I'd prefer the first option. :reductive:

Are you on ATRL? I read this exact same on the CTTR thread.
