Mess that whole paragraph was a waste of your time, I only read the first sentence cuz I can tell what is all about

I wasn't saying that it was 100% homophobia, but I was saying that straight people can't decide on what isn't homophobia cuz they just don't understand it to the level we do

k bye, im not going to explain it again cuz its pointless. bye

Well, and I gave you the point of view of a ******* on the issue. Grow a pair dude.

As one of MANY gay males with effeminate qualities, feeling safe in the work place without fear of ridicule IS a pretty serious issue. Your time at work is a pretty big part of your life and it has a deep impact on the human psyche. That affects MILLIONS.

It goes deeper than that though. Did you know that there are many states that allow an employer to fire someone for being  LGBT? I unfortunately experinced this. I was laid off because my employer's  religious views and my "lifestyle" couldn't co-exist.

Yes, this was in a sense "just a joke", but it goes deeper than that. This man felt that it would be appropriate to make this offensive "joke" on national television. And that it was a funny joke at that. If no one educates him, who's to say he wont go on to become a person of great power at some news station and affect the lives of others through his misguided words/actions. If we don't  start somewhere, we will never get anywhere.

I see where you are coming from and I agree on that. But calling him a bully, saying he's homophobe and victimizing him on the internet for a bad joke isn't changing the real issue. So why give him hell for making a bad joke?

Ah thanks for that sis :diane:

You just reminded me why I should be grateful I'm not a heterosexual cuz y'all say stupid and embarassing **** like that :poot:

What kind of mess. Fighting homophobia by being heterophobic to a member who didn't even make the allegedly homophobic comment. :madge:

The point of this thread was never to "bash" this man. It was simply to analyze the opinions of others to gain a better perspective of the world around us. I was hoping for an educated conversation in which homophobia, bullying, and the like would be conversed from diffrent view points.

And to that degree, the forum is a sucess as I, and everyone else who has read this forum, has now been exposed to a variety of view points.

This is a forum based website. A Gaga fan website at that. What really ever gets resolved or has any impact on the "real world"? Atleast this is concerning real world issues and topics rather than say, speculation on whether or not so and so is charting higher than him/her and such, ya know?

Don't get this wrong but I am a gay man and your topic is offending me more than the joke he made or homophobia in general. And if your topic is opening peoples minds, fine.

Please explain to me how/why you are feeling offended.

Please be as specific as possible. The human psyche is fascinating to me and I wish to understand how and why you feel the way you do.

Not to chime in, but even that very sentence is quite offensive. Your delivery seems quite condescending.

Hmmmm interesting.

Would you say it's due to word choice, word placement, or another unnamed factor?

Your pompous tone is what I would attribute it to.

Hmmmmm also very interesting.

That being said, do you feel the usage of imagery such as gifs/emoticons would further the "pompousness" or diminish it?

I think that maybe you should learn when it's appropriate to speak formally and when it's appropriate to tone down the formality.

Talking constantly like you've just walked out of an etiquette lesson is really quite draining for the recipient and will become draining for you eventually.

I absolutely hail intelligence and love how comfortable you are with complex expressions of the English language, but learn when it's best to use that understanding to your advantage. If you go through life talking in the tone that you are, people will only think you're a pompous arsehole, whereas, if you established when it would be appropriate to speak in that way, people will respect you much more.

If I may give an example, if I were talking to a work colleague, I would use language similarly to how you are as it is both professional and appropriate to do so. However, if I were on a pop culture forum, as we both are, I would use much more relaxed expressions of English, such as 'so', rather than 'that being said'.

Thank you very much for the opinions and for taking the time to type out such an eloquent response :D

It is important to note and also important for me to remember, that there are a number of factors that are impossible for you to take into account when it comes to how I type. I really don't want to get into it all as I'm not a fan of sob stories, especially to strangers, but there's methods to my madness, so to speak.

i feel like people who haven't experienced a lot of real homophobia (such as violence for your sexuality or domestic abuse for your sexuality) will think this is a bigger deal than it is. It's a simple, terrible, joke and should be left at that.

This type of passive aggressive non-joke is rooted in fear. And fear generates reactions like paranoia, untrustworthiness, and pessimistic behaviors. These types of "reporting" just caters to those with the same fears and thus blinds them to the reality of the world around which is everything, not just a black or white mentality.

And bullying is a form of asserting power in a microcosm of society through physical or verbal abuse, which only works if it weakens the targeted victim's place in society and/or makes others fear their wrath to not resist or intervene, not too different from terrorism.  Either bullies need to be fought off to offset their perception of dominance or some sort of educating of both sides is needed to reach a mutual understanding to avoid future conflict.

The same goes for networks, blogger/reporters, and any source of biased information, like bullying in the macrocosm. America is going through a civil war of information at the moment and it is being fought by propaganda groups and political movements fighting for the minds of this generation and the ones coming out of school. And if anyone is to filter information they consume, it must be done with logic and reason, or this biting at each other's throats will keep people divided enough for something worse to fill the power and voice vacuum.

Stand in the light, cast your shadow.
