US investigators have begun corroborating the Russian dossier

Washington (CNN) For the first time, US investigators say they have corroborated some of the communications detailed in a 35-page dossier compiled by a former British intelligence agent, multiple current and former US law enforcement and intelligence officials tell CNN. As CNN first reported, then-President-elect Donald Trump and President Barack Obama were briefed on the existence of the dossier prior to Trump's inauguration.

It's almost like the dossier was written by a highly credible and respected former MI6 agent who has myriad connections in Russia.

That part hasn't been corroborated yet. But if some of the info is starting to be confirmed, there's a possibility that all of it could be.

Do we know which info has been confirmed? Some stuff could've easily been guessed or thrown in as general info that most people would know just to make the documents look legitimate.

I bet you more in that document is right than wrong. It doesn't even matter if the Rosneft share he and his team got is 19.5% or 19%, if the Russian hookers gave him a golden shower or not, the underlying fact is that he won thanks to Russia and owes them big time and that while Trump is probably barely capable of understanding what this document means, his team has good connections with Russian oligarchs.

"None of the newly learned information relates to the salacious allegations in the dossier. Rather it relates to conversations between foreign nationals. The dossier details about a dozen conversations between senior Russian officials and other Russian individuals. Sources would not confirm which specific conversations were intercepted or the content of those discussions due to the classified nature of US intelligence collection programs.

But the intercepts do confirm that some of the conversations described in the dossier took place between the same individuals on the same days and from the same locations as detailed in the dossier, according to the officials. CNN has not confirmed whether any content relates to then-candidate Trump."

The document was written around July-September and distributed in Washington circles somewhere around September-October (at least quite some time before his election). It became public in January. It says the following on page 30:

"In terms of the substance of their discussion, SECHIN's associate said that the Rosneft President was so keen to lift personal and corporate sanctions imposed on the company, that he offered PAGE/TRUMP's associates the brokerage of up to a 19 per cent (privatised) stake in Rosneft in return. PAGE had expressed interest and confirmed that were TRUMP elected US president, then sanctions on Russia would be lifted."

 

In December, Rosneft sold a 19.5% stake worth tens of billions to an unknown buyer, using an offshore construction and many different companies to hide traces:

"...In addition, public records show the ownership structure of the stake ultimately includes a Cayman Islands company whose beneficial owners cannot be traced.

And while Italian bank Intesa SanPaolo leant the Singapore vehicle 5.2 billion euros to fund the deal, and Qatar put in 2.5 billion, the sources of funding for nearly a quarter of the purchase price have not been disclosed by any of the parties.

"The main question in relation to this transaction, as ever, still sounds like this: Who is the real buyer of a 19.5 percent stake in Rosneft?" Sergey Aleksashenko, a former deputy head of Russia's central bank, wrote in a blog last week.

Glencore would not comment on the identity of the Cayman Islands firm or give a further explanation of how ownership of the 19.5 percent stake was divided.

The Qatari Investment Authority said it would not comment on the deal, beyond confirming that it has participated in it."

Let's also not forget that ExxonMobile, whose ex-CEO is now secretary of state (Rex Tillerson), currently has a $500 billion deal with Rosneft blocked due to sanctions on Russia.

19% and 19.5% are very close numbers. It leads me to think that a lot of what's said in the document is true.
