Both women support each other and Britney likes Madonna's music and legacy but it's clear Britney doesn't care about Madonna as a person lol. Their relationship was just so bizarre to me. It was not genuine. Madonna was just using Britney in 2003 and she strategically excelled because she wore britney t shirts a few years before to smitten Britney. 

Britney did several interviews in 2003 and she would always say "Me and Madonna are not friends. I look up to her but we're not friends". I'm paraphrasing of course but she definitely confirmed her and madonna were never friends. 

Madonna selfishly then introduced Britney to Kabbalah. Britney clearly wasn't committed to it. Madonna then became distance with Britney ever since she found out Britney didn't follow through with Kabbalah

In 2007 Britney had the infamous breakdown. MJ, Elton John, Cher, and many other stars supported her? Where was Madonna? Nowhere to be found supporting or looking for Britney. Even Christina Aguilera tried to get in contact with Britney but couldn't so she wrote a letter to her mom Lynne Spears for get well.

In 2008 Britney released Circus which was her comeback. Madonna got hyped and decided to jump on the bandwagon. Strategic? Yes because her song with Justin Timberlake was a hit in 2008. Madonna invited Britney to duet with her at her tour. Then backstage at the VMAs 2008 Madonna meets Britney backstage and you can tell Britney was like "Ok I dueted you stop being desperate and leave me alone"  

Since then Britney and Madonna have been distant. Tweet about each other here and there and that's it. Madonna wanted to collab with Britney again but it's clear Britney doesn't want to.

There's a reason why Madonna asked to collab with Ariana and Britney. Ariana's team was the only one to respond back lol. 

I don't think there's any dislike there I just think Britney probably finds Madonna slightly annoying and would rather keep her distance and support her from FAR lol.
