boysboysboys 278
Hi guys, just saw this article and it got me thinking: Link Is Gaga a legacy act? The implication here is that her days of being ground-breaking, impactful and relevant musically are over and she is living off a legacy of previous hits. That is what a legacy act is. Isn't it a bit sad that a major outlet has called it out? What can she change to turn it around? For a while Mariah Carey was thought of to be a legacy act as well until she released The Emancipation of Mimi. Personally, I think Gaga just needs to be more contemporary and stop acting like such an adult. What are your thoughts?
venusfly 17,885
I think she is, it'll be like that until she starts at least slightly conforming to trends
hELXIG 43,042
There's still a chance for her to be a chart topper again. The problem is, I'm not sure if she wants that level of poularity again. Or if she wants to create music with that being the driving force. I guess only time will tell. Either way she'll always have her diehard fans who will follow her forever, so... meh At the moment... I'm not sure if she is or not. I guess she is. I just don't think about it too much. I'll be myself until they fūcking close the coffin.
VTV 12,842
she is. she's done living for the charts. she just wanna be her father's daughter, sister's sister. we'll get over it eventually
Lucas 27,088
She is. I don't think her last 2 eras would get interest if it wasn't from the girl that released TF/M and Born This Way

I'm just perplexed because it's so bizarre to follow a pop star that isn't making pop music and only sometimes makes pop culture. A part of me wishes there would be more effort in this level, especially since America is giving her a second chance with the Superbowl success. My Little Phoney 658
maybe. but I don't care. She seems happier than ever before and makes, in my opinion, great music, and is on top of her game performance wise.
Naufri 7,424
It is not necessary for Gaga to follow the trends, trends are cyclical and are constantly changing, Gaga can meet, or even create a trend even without trying to being trendy. More or less this is what happened with The Fame. It's not like glam electro pop wasn't dominating the charts in 2009 exactly.
dit 46,482
She is about to get a new top 10. She is not a legacy act and it will be so satisfying when Billboard updates the charts with MR in the top 10 after having written such a trashy article. Sakrai 4,759
I think she's being held to the same standards as other pop girls, which is disrespectful towards her and shows how ignorant people at Billboard are. They just push her down. They tell her "you cannot be an artist, we're never going to see you as an artist. The value we put in is only the amount of singles that you sell." What they don't understand is that Gaga is over that, and she's no longer interested in playing that game. Although, I think she herself still cannot cut those ropes that tie her to market expectations, but she's trying very hard to. Gaga is a legacy act in the sense that she has had her hits and has a concrete, noticeable legacy behind her, but she no longer wants to belong to the war of singles. She wants to be successful by releasing music that comes from her heart, and deep down if that's not exactly what people want nowadays, I think it's fine with her. Oh, I'm just visiting-
DeanWinchester 41,390
Rihanna was also described as a legacy act with ANTi. A legacy act =/= nostalgia act. http://m.huffpost.com/ca/entry/9693902 Now, legacy acts aren’t synonymous with nostalgia acts. Rather, they’re artists who have hit a career point where they don’t need successful albums or radio hits to remain relevant. They can make whatever music they want to (or not want to) and still be popular, respected and sell tickets. This achievement is usually unlocked at the latter stage of a career, but Beyoncé pulled it off early a couple years ago with a self-titled surprise album that was her least radio-friendly, despite still seeing some success on radio because, well, she’s Beyoncé.
