Probably. The SB possibly may have been the first time many Metallica fans have ever properly seen Gaga perform (well and the National Anthem the year before). Still, with all she's done in the past 2 years to showcase her talent, I'm sure it still wouldn't have been overwhelmingly negative of a reaction.
