Why did the roof have to be opened if the part on the roof was prerecorded?

Probably so the smoke from fireworks/fire etc etc has somewhere to go rather than just hang around the stadium. 

Also to contribute to the illusion of her jumping off the roof - it would have looked more believable to both in person audience and TV audience with the roof open rather than closed.

she probably just jumped onto a mat or something to make it look like she was jumping into the stadium.  for the live show she was just suspended in the stadium while the first part played and then they started lowering her.

Not with those kind of strings, you need elastic ones, but those wouldnt work with the performance, she probably jumped into a mattress up there or something
