That is common thing in religion, that your talents aren't really yours but a gift of God that you should use to serve him and do good things in his name. I always hear that kind of things in my family and in church. I'm Catholic, btw.

yeah, i'm aware of the religious undertones of her statement. i was just shocked as i remember that what she's been saying throughout her career, especially during AP, was that your talent belongs to you and that it will never leave you.

Its not really a contradiction to that. God created you (religious wise, I dont want to offend anyone that isnt a believer), with everything it comes. Its more like saying that you have a greater purpose than you can comprehend because the things that make you especial and wonderful were especially given to you, by him, and therefore cant be lost or tarnished because his gifts are perfect.

Its not intended to be so literal, its about sharing your gifts.

im not religious either so I can see why you are confused, but this is just something that goes along with monotheistic religions a lot, its just a weird concept for us to grasp since we cannot relate.

what? she told them that "their talent did not belong to them"?

dafuq...

Meaning god is he owner and god Is sharing his gift to the world through them. Like the talent is bigger than them and they should feel blessed that god chose them as the messengers.
