Sean Paul's 2nd Wind

If you were living between the years of 2002 to 2006, chances were that every time you got in the car you would hear a song by Sean Paul on the radio.

Between those years Sean Paul earned 7 Top 15 hits, 5 of them being Top 10, as a lead artist.

He was also asked to feature on songs by top artists like Beyonce ("Baby Boy") and Rihanna ("Break it Off").

His song "Get Busy" was the 3rd biggest song of 2003 and "Temperature" was the 2nd biggest song of 2006.

But after 2006, the US never really heard from Sean Paul again. His fourth album was released 4 years after his third and when that lead single dropped on 2009, the single flopped. We did see Sean Paul feature on a #10 peaking song that year, Jay Sean's "Do You Remember", but that was it.

During this decade Sean Paul has released two albums, once in 2012 and then another in 2014. His music is much more EDM sounding than Hip-Hop now and the albums have some good bops. However, the US has given them no love. Europeans seem to have enjoyed the new work a bit though.

But now here we are in a post "Cheap Thrills" world. Sean Paul's feature gave him his 4th #1 song. And now Clean Bandit's "Rockabye" is climbing the US charts. I will say I thought Sean Paul's role in "Cheap Thrills" didn't add much to the song, but in "Rockabye", Sean Paul's part is a crucial element of the song, i like it.

Last week Sean Paul released his latest single to US radio, "No Lie" featuring Dua Lipa. The song hit the radio in the UK two months ago and will now seek success in the States.

I'm always here for a comeback story, so you go Sean Paul!

IMHO it is hard for him.to get that 2nd wind, or maybe he choose it that way. Songs from his first two albums were everywhere when I was younger. But it is still good to listen to, not the kind of bad overplayed state, that honour was taken by Usher's Yeah!, it was so everywhere, it became overkill, but that's another person :poot:

It DID add something to Cheap Thrills, though. As much as I love that song and Sia, they were struggling to make the song catch on the radio because it was released around December or January I think and they re-released it with Sean Paul months later, that's when they paid attention to it.

As much as I dislike rappers on songs that I've heard before or sound out of place, they did an amazing move on Cheap Thrills. And that's probably why some other artists started releasing more "tropical house" trendy songs.

Clever Username

Temperature was a bop :lolly:  :music:

And I'm really feeling his features lately in CT and especially Rockabye.
