But this is not about uber not donating :rip:

It's about self-righteous hypocrisy. Don't cast stones at others if you're not doing anything for the cause either. These drivers are just trying to make a living, they can't afford the luxury of symbolic protest.

This is important --->

This is a perfect example of how the Left completely demonstrates a gross misunderstanding of the working class, which is why we have Donald Trump as president.

I asked and no one responded.

But couldn't Uber just compensate drivers in the area who were online for that time?

Like credit them x amount that would have been reasonable for the time they didn't work.

And avoid this controversy? :rip:

This protest was a spur of the moment thing, how were they supposed to contact these drivers to tell them that?

We also need to keep in mind that this was a handful of drivers who are all independently contracted.

The Left will continue to mistreat the working class people of this country with foolish misguided boycotts like this, and people like Trump will keep getting elected. This is madness.

This is so stupid. The world can't come to a halt when bad things happen.

They could have announced that Uber supported the protest but had their hands tied.

Then announce free rides for protestors.

There's many solutions to avoid a controversy.

I mean the donation is great but now people just think it's dishonest :rip:

^This is why Donald Trump was elected president :awkney:

Some people just don't get the struggle of being a working class citizen. These people can't take time off of work for YOUR protest that you're not even donating to

Also those taxi drivers are now Uber drivers :awkney: Uber didn't cause any spike in the unemployment rate sis hahaha chill and take econ next semester

Not as dramatic as conservatives boycotting Starbucks over red cups :ladyhaha:

Actually, now they are boycotting Starbucks because they are hiring refugees.

Supported them :oprah: , and voted against people who want to ban them. :oprah:

Dumb question tho because since Im not a CEO or politican I cant do much, rather than casting a vote.

So what do you want him to do? He IS doing something whether it was because he faced backlash or not. If it really was, at least he's doing something to help? Feels like an appropriate response to me. Someone is criticised, they maybe get educated and do something helpful for the situation as a result. Isn't that a positive outcome?

Makes me think that some people really are addicted to being outraged for the sake of being outraged.

I don't think it's as simple as that. Plus Uber drivers are independent, their money comes directly from the customer not the company. And it also isn't Uber's place to force a political opinion onto their drivers to partake in a boycott that they may not believe in - I would be surprised if many/any of them are adamantly against the cause, but still. Principle remains I guess.

This is how markets work.

It's not injustice if a small boutique grew to be a huge retail store and suddenly H&M is out of business. It's just how the economy works. It wasn't just Uber that led to Taxi drivers losing their jobs, it's the people's demand for a better service that made Uber what it is today.
