I'm asking because it's truly hard for me to keep up with with US politics not being from the US myself: didn't he say he would do this during his campaign? why are even some of his supporters shook? did they vote for him expecting him to do the complete opposite?

No because usually there are powers and forces in other parts of the government that are supposed to keep the president in check. He shouldn't actually be capable of everything he is doing.

However with how Trump has seemingly usurped and went around everything, everything he is doing is shocking because this wouldn't be happening in a normal presidency.

Not to mention, some of his supporters have turned his back on him due to the fact they are now forced to suffer a his hand. The ACA and VA being incredible determinators of why many turned their backs on him.

I knew the situation was really bad because well, Republicans , but I didn't know that he was such an extraordinary case of awfulness

You mean that he won by a dumb, outdated racist system that was made up for slave states to have as much power as non-slave states?

 

Why should a group of people decide who the next president is? The popular vote would be a much better system, like most of the world uses.

Because America, unlike most of the word, is not a unitary country and each states represents its own values. Delegates from Texas couldn't care less what delegates from California want. And vice versa
