While Trump thinks its in Americas best interest to end NAFTA, ending free trade with Canada alone could cost the US countless jobs too not just Canada & Mexico

US-Canada trade is the largest in the world at $2 Billion everyday!

Canada is the US biggest customer relying on America for most fruits, vegetables, and pre-packaged foods. Some 80% of imported food in Canada is from the US.

USA is also Canadas biggest supplier of auto-parts and refined fuels and fertilizers. Canada also purchases more goods online from US websites than any other Nation on Earth.

Most of these products can easily be obtained elsewhere in the world, the free-trade has simply made it cheaper to get it from the United States

Free-Trade Agreements Canada recently made with EU and Asian Countries could make some of these goods cheaper to buy from elsewhere!

Trump says things on trade that sound nice on the face of it but have dire consequences to them. He needs to think. Just a little. Trade is a two way street.

Well duh. After a trade deal many lose their jobs and it takes some time to get new jobs for those people, but after a few years it makes zero sense to cancel a trade deal.

Did you know Mexico's drug war is a direct cause of NAFTA, because corn farmers lost their jobs to Americans?

No i didnt know about that.

Although half of wheat and corn production is expected to move to Canada by 2050 because global warming is making American farm areas dryer and underground aquafers are drying up...

But yeah... between what we export and import...

imports can be used as parts for exports and vice versa... its a complex web

$2 Billion trade a day slapped with taxes will cause a lot of job losses both sides of the border...

Also by removing the cheap advantage, might only encourage more trade with poor countries and cause more offshoring

But there's an important political aspect here as well: the GOP will impeach Trump if he proves that he's not business friendly. That's why Trump's team retracted the 20% import tax statement and said it was one of many different possibilities. NAFTA is safe.

A theory I've heard a lot is that the GOP plans to let Trump enact their own (unpopular) platform of lowering business/banks regulations/taxes, privatizing education/prisons/healthcare/military/social-security, lowering taxes for the rich and wealthy, etc. and then to impeach Trump and blame him for these unpopular measures. That would be terrible for the US but amazing for the top 1% and it's basically Republicans' wet dream: do everything you have always wanted to do while staying in power.

I don't know enough about the NAFTA agreement to be honest.   Trump may be playing this for the Teamster Unions tho who hate it and think that they have entitlements for American Labor interests.

The theory that 'Free Trade' in on the North American land mass is a good one imo, but all the rules, tarriffs, exclusions, ect. are the area's that I'm not to up on.

like a cat in a sil, I observe life, moving and still. My words give a clue, look inside to see whats true
