From a radio/commercial perspective:

The Fame: Just Dance

The Fame Monster: Bad Romance

Born This Way: Born This Way

ARTPOP: Do What U Want (Ft. R Kelly) (and with a decent music vid)

Joanne: Dancin In Circles

I would make POKER FACE the lead single of The Fame. I never cared much for Just Dance, and I wasn't aware of Gaga until Poker Face arrived anyway.

I would not change BAD ROMANCE as the lead single for The Fame Monster. Such an excellent lead-in for the era. edit: I meant to add that since we were supposed to change them all, I would have picked DITD for TFM.

I would have THE EDGE OF GLORY as the lead from Born This Way. Although I appreciate the message on the title track, I feel that TEOG is such an all-around more epic song. I think this would have made a much better lead-in for the era overall.

I've said before that I think VENUS should have been the lead from ARTPOP. I think Applause is such a C+ song, and that's after warming up to it. I hated it at first. The heavenly choruses of Venus deserved this lead spot.

I think A-YO would have been a more appropriate lead for Joanne. It would just have done a better job representing the album as a whole.

I cannot even fathom the meltdowns we would've had to witness if this song had been the lead from Joanne :emma:

OT:

The Fame - Poker Face

The Fame Monster - can't change this one, it would be too blasphemous tbh

Born This Way - Marry the Night

ARTPOP - Do What U Want

Joanne - A-YO (it represents the album much more accurately than PI did)

The Fame: Poker Face

TFM: Dance in the Dark

BTW: Marry The Night (possibly?)

Spoiler

I really don't think there can be a new lead for this album tbh. Born This Way was literally the PERFECT lead, so perfect any other option would've been the biggest mistake ever in pop music history.

ARTPOP: Do What You Want (ft Xtina) with my BOAAOHHHDDDDDYYYY

Joanne: Diamond Heart!

I disagree. TEOG is iconic in every single way, a powerful song that deserves to be a single. It would've probably done excellent as lead but the title track was literally perfect. It was the only song our of that entire album that could've made casual listeners interested in the album tbh. It was the perfect mixture of mainstream pop and uniqueness plus the message just increased the chances of the GP loving it even more! Born This Way also was the only song that could've arrived at No. 1 on the Hot 100 and stayed there for as long as it did out of all the songs on that album. TEOG is great but forgettable.

This could be true. BTW is definitely one of the most iconic songs of all! And it had massive sales.

It fell off the hot 100 after only 20 weeks though. I always thought TEOG could have maybe had more longevity and possibly even been number one for longer than BTW if it were given the lead single treatment, rather than the promotional single upgraded treatment it got.

We'll never know for sure though. There are endless possibilities of "what could have been" for any era's single releases. Where's my crystal ball when I need it?
