malazam 15,710
That's it, the most powerful country started giving its back to climate change. And by the way, check: another shot before we kiss the other side

Bebe 17,289
This is one of the most depressing realities of the Trump presidency. It scared me throughout the campaign and now it's just depressing. The U.S has a major obligation to the rest of the world to reduce their emissions and they also have such an influence over other countries - they need to be a leader in this fight. With an anti-science POTUS it seems like we will be losing at least 4 precious years trying to reduce carbon emissions. It's going to make the fight considerably harder. I've kinda lost hope that we can reduce the world's carbon emissions enough tbh. I mean... Even the research from the U.S was invaluable and now it's going to be dismantled. The world was already struggling to keep the global temperature increase below 2°C. It sounds super alarmist, it sounds like an overreaction, but honestly - the world is ****ed. https://ourworld.unu.edu/en/carbon-emissions-must-be-cut-significantly-by-2020-says-un-report
Bebe 17,289
Do you know what genuinely f*cking angers me about this though? While experts talk about the how climate change will pose a huge threat to security and world stability - while they talk about how climate change is set to cause a refugee crisis of “unimaginable scale" and that mass migration will become the “new normal”. While senior military figures have said the impacts of climate change were already factors in the conflicts driving a current crisis of migration into Europe, having been linked to the Arab Spring, the war in Syria and the Boko Haram terrorist insurgency. While Military leaders have long warned that global warming could multiply and accelerate security threats around the world by provoking conflicts and migration and called climate change "the greatest security threat of the 21st century” The right will continue to talk about how important national security is while ignoring what military leaders consider the greatest security threat of the 21st century. And when the effects of climate change show, and it leads to a refugee crisis unlike anything we have seen before, it will be the right who refuse refugees entry into the country and consider them such a burden. The right can just **** up the entire world, create a refugee crisis, and then cry about how it's unrealistic to be able to help all these refugees and that it's just too much of a burden.
