There whole upbringing makes them shoot each other. Education and all that won't help them, Obama gave up and abandoned Chicago when he came into office. They need more policing, it is out of control.

What upbringing do you think that is? Do you think kids are being told drugs, gangs and shooting people is okay in Chicago? No! There is a lack of opportunity.

Watch any Documentary on chicago:

These people are crying. They are talking about how it's impossible for them to escape the cycle.

"We all know - come from this motherf*cker you're either gunna sell drugs, you're gunna rob a motherf*cker, you're going to get you a bogus ass job paying $8 an hour - then you're going to have to sell some drugs. The **** all is a maze to get right back on the block and sell some drugs."

"The police authority don't like exactly what we do, or how we live, WE don't actually like the way that we live, but when you're pushed into a way of life - when you're forced into a way of life - how else can you live?"

The answer isn't more feds. What does that do? How does that solve anything?

Do more police create more jobs so that people don't have to sell drugs to get by? Does it raise the minimum wage so people can afford to live without selling drugs? Does help with education so people have more opportunity for upward mobility?

No - People aren't shooting each other in Chicago because they are worse people than the rest of the world. It's a reflection of the lack of opportunity.

You are so incredibly misinformed and yet it never stops you from talking and talking and talking, it's really remarkable

How am i misinformed? The crime rates continually go up in Chicago and nobody is doing anything about it. I feel bad for these people and think policing will help because it will help regulate the area.

I agree we need more quality education in Chicago. But we also need more policing because this has got out of control. But you can't sit here and make excuses for people shooting each other, although it is the lack of opportunity, people do get out of Chicago. I think we need free quality education and to improve housing as well.

I'm not making excuses for anyone shooting anyone. It just seems very clear that more police isn't going to solve the issue.

As long as there is a lack of opportunity for upward mobility, as long as there is a lack of education and work people are going to be pushed into more illegal activities in order to pay the bills and attain a certain amount of 'success'.

As long as the economic conditions exist, that are pushing people into gangs and drugs, there is going to be violence. More police in the area isn't going to change that.

Police aren't the problem. There are police everywhere. Ones that fulfill thief job? Not as much. I remember there was a fight in the alley and the car just left and came, nothing happened. That's not gonna change anything.

We actually go through extensive education when it comes to drugs, firearms, and sex as I would assume would occur in other states. Clearly that doesn't change everyone's minds.

The problem is people like you acting like it's a constant battlefield here. First off, more policing will hardly do anything, as I stated above. It doesn't root from that. Go downtown and you see so many people living on the streets asking for spare change. The only other alternatives they see is illegal activity. Clearly my the best solution but because of the lack of opportunity they see no other way out. Perhaps those jobs that Trump speaks so proudly of could benefit people here greatly. Any other approach will hardly change anything here.

Gee... and I wonder how the bad parts of Chicago got that way... *cough cough the feds...

Like others have said, yes the areas in Chicago that need help DO need assistance. But by throwing the feds into this with literally no plan and just a tweet is a really bad way at looking at this.

I agree. I hope he brings jobs to Chicago. I feel really bad for the people there, very bad. It is so sad that a lot of these people don't have equal opportunities.

Look, crime is nothing but a symptom of a huge issue that includes larger structural and systemic problems such as income inequality, little to no opportunity for impoverished communities and communities of color, terrible education, etc.

Policing addresses the SYMPTOM, not the illness or the root cause.

The only way we can honestly address crime is by addressing all those larger structural issues that shape it. Policing is not the answer, it is only a band-aid that we use to hide the real problem, all the while sabotaging entire communities and keeping them from ever succeeding by locking them up and ruining their lives.

Eh, I see where he's coming from and I wouldn't wind if that were a part of a larger effort to reduce to crime (better funded schools, jobs programs there,  government help for the most desperate, etc) but if it's just gonna be more Feds, then that's a just a police state. So for now, I'm skeptical but will be happy to look into any other plans he has if he puts forward more components.

How, even Obama gave up on Chicago. There needs to be better schools, more policing so everyone is safe, and programs set up to get people out of the system. I think we should invest in free college in Chicago so they can get a good education.

the fact that Obama gave up on Chicago doesn't mean that it's a lost case.

And how do you think "more policing" is going to work? Curfews? Massive jailing? Unjustified shootings? blood from both sides? Or do you think everyone from Chicago will just be like "oooh the feds are here, lets all stop and behave like good boys in harmony"?

Also, no matter how you sugarcoat it, using the police like this is one of the classic points of a fascist regime blooming.
