Morphine Prince 109,654
President-elect Donald Trump plans to dramatically slash funding for the humanities when he takes office, according to a new report from The Hill. In meetings with White House staff, Trump transition officials have reportedly indicated that the administration will shutter the National Endowment for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Humanities, as well as privatize the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In its argument for closing the NEH, the Heritage blueprint proclaims, “government should not use its coercive power of taxation to compel taxpayers to support cultural organizations and activities.” On a similar note, it states of the NEA, “Taxpayer assistance of the arts is neither necessary nor prudent [...] Taxpayers should not be forced to pay for plays, paintings, pageants, and scholarly journals, regardless of the works’ attraction or merit.” Source: https://www.google.com/amp/m.huffpost.com/us/entry/us_5880de61e4b070d8cad0e184/amp?client=safari

Shipper 13,114
Why should the government grant funds to Arts and Humanities that celebrate culture? Hmm... I don't know. I think being informed of other people's culture together with your own is beneficial so kids don't grow up to be EGOCENTRIC buffoons who only cares about themselves and what their OWN culture dictates. It gives you a freedom of expression and makes you more understanding of people that is different from you Humanities teach us the importance of diversity and how we can all be different and yet we are all intrinsically the same human beings living in Earth. Art depicts this through expression in different mediums. What will he support instead of this, TWITTER? 🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶

Letmelivemylife 8,715
OH HELL NO!!!!!!!!! What about kids like 2 of my neices, and 3 of my cousins who live and breathe art? I suppose the non profit theater organization one of my cousins runs is safe since he receives no government funding. It's all run by private donation but even so Trump shouldn't punish kids for living and breathing art. What if there's a child/teen whose only source of happiness is that art/acting class where they aren't the "freak" and they get to be who they are? I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

He's a modern guy who gets transported to life on earth 500 years later where people are so stupid he's literally the smartest person alive. People have said that we're headed towards an "Idiocracy" world. We aren't ****ing headed, we're already ****ing there. Case in point: Donald Trump is president of the United States I love you monsters. I'd be unfixably broken without you

Adakam 2
Art will never die, it has seen worse than this. And we can help, if you want to support the arts there are many ways you can, even if its just a bit, even if its by sharing on facebook the pictures of an artist, make donations, volunteer, help small groups fund their plays, help a kid get his painting materials, anything you can, everyone has an extra dolar in their pocket, or an extra few hours in their week. My fave quote ever: "Together we stand, Divided we fall".

If you invest in art/media, then higher quality products (i.e. shows, musicians, films etc) will be released. International success = soft power for America. Cultural imperialism is the new colonialism. Sad!
