Being apolitical has always been Taylor's beat and she has been criticised quite heavily in recent months for not making her political stance clear when every other celebrity seems to be doing it right now. In the midst of all the celebrities against Trump, Taylor's silence spoke volumes. So, now, out of all the tweets supporting the Women's March, this is the most newsworthy one:

So, she is anti-Trump after all but just didn't want to risk losing a huge portion of her fanbase by being too overt about it? Judging by the best rated comments on this article, it was a risk that didn't necessarily pay off. But at the end of the day, she's supporting anti-Trump sentiments now, we know for sure. She did a nice thing donating money to Kesha's court case and now props to her for again putting her money where her mouth is in regards to all the feminism that she's been preaching (but didn't necessarily embody until now). Keep this up, Taylor, and I may start to like you more.

It literally was started by a woman who was upset about Trump winning.

This new administration is trying to take away women's rights, immigrant rights, civil rights, LGBTQ+ rights.

I still don't understand why Taylor Swift of all people must make her political positions known

Take a moment to think of just flexibility, love, and trust~

It's never been done on this scale before. It's a direct response to his hateful speech towards all minorities, and for women a little more specifically against his history of sexual assault. So Taylor acknowledging it is a political statement.

What's the significance of what you said?

Because she's made it clear that she's a feminist, has done things in the name of feminism and has lectured other women for being anti feminist. She holds herself to a feminist standard, therefore, other people will hold her to it as well. So, if she does anything hypocritical, people are ready to call her out on it, and with good reason. So, when a feminist cause makes the headlines, a cause that a lot of celebrity women went to, we're going to enquire why a self-proclaimed celebrity feminist wasn't there. Too many celebrities are happy to support feminism for their own gain, when it's convenient for them, when it concerns them and them alone. If we want feminism to be taken seriously, we don't want people to think it's just a throwaway word that translates as 'empowerment' or something. It's about so much more than that.

You make a very good point here. One that most people don't want to bring up for fear of being called racist. I hold everyone to the same standard, so when a black celebrity doesn't seem to live up to their feminist claims, I will criticise them just as harshly as a white person. But yet, people still see it as racism. Because racism in this modern age is starting to take on a new meaning of "criticising a person of colour for any reason, no matter how valid" as well as "people of colour can do whatever they please and you can't question them, but when white people do the same thing, it's a problem." That latter definition is ironic because that was always the standard for white on black racism but the tables are sure turning these days. But yes, it seems that nowadays, if you're white/male/straight/cisgender (or even better, a combination of all those things), you're taken a whole lot less seriously when you try to make a point and you get dismissed purely because of the way you were born. Which goes against everything SJWs are supposed to believe in. What happened to judging people on the content of their character, like a certain MLK once said?
