Eighteen 5,430 Posted January 21, 2017 Share Posted January 21, 2017 the new york times wrote that the crowd was about 1/3rd of obama's first inauguration (which was the highest turnout in history, estimated at 1.8 million people according to the new york times), but in my opinion trump's could be a little higher in number than the estimate the times gave, but i can't be sure. it was most definitely a lot less than obama's first inaugural address, so there is no way that trump had 1 - 1.5 million attendees as he seems to claim in this video. perspective one image: reuters (the swearing in began at 12pm i believe) perspective two (from a lower angle so it does look fuller): donald trump has been able to get away with this kind of blatant twisting of truth for some time now. it's important to stay vigilant if you are in the US today and to have good news sources and to wield a healthy dose of skepticism for everything you read online and in the press (don't get your news from facebook. if you see a headline--any headline--check to see if it's being reported someplace credible). trump has developed a very acrimonious relationship with much of the reliable press (the new york times for example) which is dangerous to the health of the country because the truth is kept even more so at a distance and politicians are able to get away with more. also know that the press does make mistakes sometimes, even the reliable ones, because facts can at times be elusive even to the reporter, but also be aware that what separates a good news source from a bad one is that the bad one is oftentimes extremely ideological, twisting much of the truth to fit into something it is incompatible with using savvy arguments that sound plausible, while the good presents information for one to draw one's own conclusions (though sometimes analysis is good and helpful via the op ed section). http://www.cbsnews.com/news/photos-president-trumps-inauguration-crowd-vs-president-obamas/ https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2017/01/20/us/politics/trump-inauguration-crowd.html full speech: Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
