Remember there’s a big difference between one great police officer you know who is not racist and the institution called Toronto Police Services, which is a documented system of racist oppression. That is the beast we are fighting here. 6. Angry white people: just stop for a second and listen to what a real life black queer person has to say about the matter. Consider the possibility that in this, you are probably wrong, and the reason you are probably wrong is that you are not black and cannot know of what you speak. So just listen to what the experts (black people) have to say about what’s going on in racism lately. You’re probably a bit out of touch on the matter, idk. 7. Yes, Black Lives Matter and Pride Toronto fully expect to boot Toronto Police Services out of Pride and still have protection from Toronto Police. You should too. That is what we pay police to do. 8. Listen to POC. 9. LISTEN TO POC. 10. To all my non-white friends, queer and otherwise, I’m so sorry about this. The white community must look so scary right now, and we’re the ones running everything. I hope you see Toronto Pride’s decision as a sign of hope that things will get better, if slowly. Like someone said, how banning an LGBT F*CKING POLICE FLOAT going to help cop relations in a community?!?! If they ban their float I hope the police don't show up to protect them. Then maybe you'll appreciate the brave men and women that risk their lives every day so you can sit on your ass and whine all day on the computer. However, that was just a small fraction of BLM members who took it too far. Not saying there are not those who don't in other areas also, but, at the same time, a majority of BLM members and supporters are in solidarity with other disadvantaged groups and wouldn't think of doing what occurred in Toronto last year. Then again, if we're calling BLM obscure radicalism, "scum", and a "terrorist organization", you're basically the reason why those BLM members stopped the pride parade last year, because LGBT of color aren't rightfully represented or respected. You have to be more objective of these situations and realize both the causes and the effects in order to prevent them from happening in the future... ...then again, not like you guys are actually gonna do that, so instead I'm just gonna sit here, play some Moon, and laugh at whatever you guys try to do to counter the validity of my argument. Every single time something like this happens, you and others say it's just a "fringe group" and that most BLM supporters don't think like this. You apologized when they did this to Dartmouth student during finals week. You made excuses when they shut down highways in "protest". Worst of all, you even apologized for - and made excuses when - BLM PROTESTED the FUNERALS of the slain gay kids in the Orlando massacre. I dare you try to watch this disgusting group hijack this f*cking vigil. I'm so sick of BLM apologists. They are not a good group. They are not improving race relations. Like I said, there are the good eggs and the bad eggs in BLM, and I've experienced both at my university. Right after the events that occurred at Mizzou—no, it does not pertain to the video that you posted—my university, a pretty liberal one at that, held a university wide discussion on race relations and treatment of students of color at the university. Not that it really helped, it was more an act of appeasement which sucks, but after the end of the discussion, we were held up because we were demanded to listen to and read along with a set of demands by BLM, which some were valid and some were not so Then again, plenty of my friends consider themselves both a part of or a supporter of BLM, and they wouldn't dare conceive of doing something like that which happened in Toronto or in those videos. I will admit that some members and supporters of BLM are very vitriolic, so much so that they completely overshadow the good ones who are out there getting their educations and protesting in a vastly different manner, either through intellectual protest or through trying to make something of themselves in their careers and society so that hopefully we can all be seen as equals instead of lessors of one another My point is, I get your frustrations, but I also get the frustrations of many BLM members and supporters. I don't approve of some of the those individuals' actions, but I'm not held by them to believe a certain way. Honestly, groups that are as vocal as BLM have been seen as both good and bad. In America, unions were seen as very volatile as were suffragists, LGBT activists, and civil rights protestors. There are those who are a problematic few, but there are also those with good in them and the best of intentions. The police and BLM need to work towards cooperation. This is just another step back. Fighting for social equality while keeping a group of people from creating a float is messed up.
