I have to say MDNA :poot:

I mean, most of the songs were demos producers gave to her :poot: there are a few authentic songs there. It was supposed to celebrate her but it didn't. Even Hard Candy feels more personal.

Lotus by Christina Aguilera...

I'm paraphrasing, but she said something along the lines of "the album is about being an unbreakable flower. The Lotus rises from the ground and remains strong and beautiful even in the midst of rainstorms." :flop:

Sam Smith-In the Lonley Hour.  He made a whole album about relationships. But afterwards he said he had never had a boyfriend before.

It's dumb to make an album about stuff you've never experienced before just to sell albums :nails:

Maybe its relationships hes experienced through his friends?

Hell i could make an album about relationshups based on my best friends tragic love life lol

ARTPOP because the point she tried making the entire era wasn't translated in the music at all.

Anyone coming at Cry Baby :grr:

You haven't lived that life and don't understand it. That album is a masterpiece and I relate to EVERY song. It's flawless...

But on topic I would say Electra Heart I do love all the songs but I don't feel there's a real story and I don't see the character of "Electra Heart" at all

ANTI

I like the concept behind ANTI; releasing an album that's essentially opposite of what's expected, but Rihanna didn't dedicate herself to it :oprah:

Me... I am Mariah: The Elusive Chanteuse.

Even the name sounds dumb and cringe worthy

It wasn't even a conceptual album?

I don't see Cry Baby as a stupid concept. Melanie may be one of my favourite artists, and im not a big big fan of her baby theme, but its a strong and important concept about the struggles some people go through in life.

Broken families,

Mental Disabilities

Body Image

Broken Love

Drinking

Kidnappings

These are some many important themes in todays society that are faced on a day to day basis, not by everyone, but there are tons of people with disabilities, and me personally I struggle with a broken family and body image. There are people who drink non stop, which can be the cause of broken families or broken love. Kidnappings as silly as it sounds still do happen day to day, and need to be looked at largely.

Cry Baby may seem like a silly story about a girl and her life, but Melanie touches on important subjects people need to take a closer look at to understand certain things. So I wouldn't say cry baby is a stupid concept.

  Hide contents

And the fact that Melanie herself has struggled from a lot of these things (not all of them) is important as well, cause shes expressing her thoughts and feelings as the album goes on.

Bless you <3 you'd rarely encounter a solid concept like Cry Baby. It's the record I got obsessed the most last year.

I mean I see Marina but I don't see the character of Electra. Thats the only reason I think it fails. Like the tile song itself isn't even on the album and thats suppose to the close the story and era of EH... It just seemed like a missed opportunity. Not to mention the different track lists which makes following a story a little difficult if there are all these different songs in different order. Again I REALLY love the album and like Cry Baby I relate to it a lot but the way it was handled wasn't the best

Hm, I see your point.

I think the actual story of Electra Heart mainly pertains to the videos though, not the album itself. The videos contained the story of Electra: when Marina symbolically kills herself and becomes Electra, explores identities, realizes she's in a state of dreaming (:giggle:), confronts herself, etc. The music I believed was more of an exploration of the archetypes she frequently discussed. But they both tie into the overall concept of not wanting to become a vapid person.

I'm not sure though, that's just based off of what I can remember. I probably could've offered a better explanation a few years ago when I was deeply invested in the album, but I haven't paid a lot of attention to it since.

I enjoy Electra Heart (album) more than Cry Baby (it's still flawless, though) but I can admit Melanie's concept was definitely executed more efficiently.
