Where Does The Country-Folk Inspiration Come From?

Prior to Joanne, I don't recall Gaga ever manifesting her interest toward country music/country artists; nor was her music ever influenced by country-folk (with the sole exception of the BTW CountryRoad version, I guess).

I was thinking about SB guests, and how we are often imagining a rock/metal guest, rather than a country act, despite Joanne's sound: I think we have this mentality because we are used to Gaga, a popstar who's often shown her love for metal, rock, industrial etc.

This is probably why we were expecting LG5 to be more rockish or funk-ish: throughout the years, we had seen how these genres had an influence over Gaga.
So my question is, where do you think the country inspiration come from? What influenced her decision to have a country phase? Do you think we could've figured out Joanne's direction, knowing Gaga?

On a somewhat serious note, Gaga does listen to different genres. YoĂź and I is a better marker that she was interested in country-folk even before. Country-rock is a thing.

Because her late aunt Joanne turned to a farmer and gave birth to a farm.
