I hate to sound politically incorrect but unless they paint a black man white, I don't see any other options. It would be inaccurate to portray him with black skin at that point in his life? Am I missing something here?

thats what i was gunna say but i didnt wanna be quoted

It's actually not a movie. It's an anthology series from the UK with a different story each episode. Its supposed to retell stories about celebrities in a dry humor type of way. I don't think the casting was done to hurt anyone's feelings or to discourage diverse actors. The actor was probably great with his MJ impression and fit the facial features.

There was a biopic that did that during his trial in '05. They had the same actor play him from the early 80's to the early 2000's but they slowly coated him in white (literally white) paint/makeup...it looked soooo bad

Spoiler

I feel like Jermaine directed that or had a hand in its making but I can't find anything about it :oprah:

So yes, if it were a serious biopic, I wouldn't be upset with them casting a white actor to play him. I know he wouldn't like that but it's just accurate so what can you do? :S And before anyone pulls up that one Oprah interview, he said he wouldn't want a white child to play him as a child. And no one would cast a white kid to play a little black boy :laughga:

As far as the outrage towards this particular...movie? I don't think it's worth being upset about. It looks like it's just another one of those stupid movies that tries to be funny by being stupid but it misses and dies out in irrelevancy. I totally understand Paris being upset about it though. It's her dad :ohno:

I think the bottom line here is...

Michael specifically told Oprah in 1993 that he didn't want to be played by a white actor.

If you wanna be a moral producer/casting director and be respectful to MJ, don't cast a white actor as him.

From the looks of the trailer it doesn't look like the writer/creator/director really cares if MJ is slanderously portrayed. This show is basically gonna mock MJ not honor him. The years prior to his death, MJ was the butt of many jokes.

I think they should have casted with Michaels wishes in thought, but I think they may have faced a bit of controversy with make up and ppl claiming its white face and producers probably just wanted to avoid that altogether.

You are taking a bit of creative liberty with what Jackson said in that interview. He said that he didn't want a white child actor portraying him as a child. Which of course makes sense because his vitiligo was not presenting itself at the time.

The creators of this show are not immoral because they cast a white actor to portray a black man who used medication to remove the dark pigmentation of his skin, having the effect of turning him white.

I mean MJ's skin was still dark/tan at his peak and the effects of his cosmetic surgery were not that bad until he was long out of the music cycle.. I would've actually expected them to portray him as he looked during his Thriller/Bad eras but then again this movie is a parody.
