References in Lady Gaga's music

One thing I find very cool about Lady Gaga is that she has so many references in her music. This is a very big topic, so I'm mostly wondering if someone has any good articles about it. I'm thinking of both lyrical, visual and musical references.

Sometimes, I'm also wondering if a reference is intentional. Did she leave the reference there for us to discover, or has her style just been subconsciously influenced by a certain artist. Some references are obviously intentional, but sometimes I'm not sure whether or not it's intentional. Only she knows the truth, I guess.

Here are some random examples:

Summerboy: The chorus seems influenced by Blondie's Heart of Glass.

Born this Way: The cover seems influenced by Judas Priest.

Hair: This song sound a lot like Bruce Springsteen to me. It has a bit of the same vibe, musically, as Born to Run, and the piano sounds typical Roy Bittan. And need I mention the sax player? :)

Applause: So many references in this song, but I'm sure she intentionally tries to sound like David Bowie.

Diamond Heart: "Wild Young Americans" must surely be a David Bowie Reference.

Dancin' in Circles: When she sings "Baby Don't Cry", it reminds me of Ace of Base.

I would love to read articles about such things, if anyone has analyzed her songs. I have found more references than these, myself, but I'm sure there are many I haven't found.

One of the great things about stanning Gaga is being able to appreciate her godly work in music

She's smart when it comes to referencing older music and managing to update it for a modern audience. Hence why she has respect from most of the music community.

Flaming Piano

"Fashion of His Love" is very much inspired by Whitney Houston.

Also, I always like in "Gypsy" how she says "I don't speak German, but I try" (in reference to Scheisse) and "Someday in Jakarta" (in reference to the mess with the BTW Ball being cancelled in Jakarta).

She refers to Alfred Hitchcock in Bad Romance

Kill Bill in Telephone MV

A lot of music references, but also cinema...

Also, Bloody Mary is FULL of references, not so subtle though...

When Pontius comes to kill the king upon his throne

We are not just art for Michelangelo
To carve. He can't rewrite the agro of my furied heart.

She self references a lot, even in HML:

Baby we were born this way (bridge)
