Poissonche 12,365
When Joanne was released, there was a segment about it on national TV at the end of the news, but the only thing they did was showing the Million Reasons Nashville performance, and they were like: "Yes, this is Lady Gaga singing country music!". Then, they said something like: "So this is the new Lady Gaga album. It's called Joanne. It's a country album, contrarily to her previous albums, that were not country." Then, they showed the A-YO performance and they said (again) "Yes, you are hearing well, this is Lady Gaga singing country music!". And they concluded by saying: "This new Lady Gaga album will be liked by the country music fans. It's surprising; it's Lady Gaga singing country music!". It was so awkward and lasted like 2 minutes only; since they weren't actually critics, just TV journalists, they couldn't actually tell their opinion on the album, they could just say it existed, and they probably hadn't heard it anyway, but damn, it was funny Also, it is worth noting that on this channel, they almost only talk about non-Canadian musical releases during the general news when it's Lady Gaga or Adele. StrawberryBlond 13,973
PopMatters: "With ARTPOP, Gaga sounds confused, disengaged, and at its worst, just downright bored." Los Angeles Times: "Shallow, deeply unimaginative renditions [of standards out of the Great American Songbook]." The New York Times: "While Joanne is elemental, nothing about it is bare. Instead, it’s confused, full of songs that feel like concepts in search of a home, small theater pieces extruded from other imaginary productions and collected in one miscellany bin." NOW Magazine: "Gaga has wrenched herself away from dance-pop to focus on the country and classic rock influences that have always been present in her music, albeit gussied up like a coked-out drag queen stumbling out of a bar at 4 am." And he later walked back some of his original statement about Gaga. The world loved the performance, and that's what counts. I live outside the space time continuum.
