LoveGame, Poker Face even Bad Romance (with the 'want you in my rear window') were explicit. And a lot of other artist have big radio hits with 'explicit' songs ^^ Though I agree for DH

swordstalker 1,829
Can someone please explain to me how Diamond Heart being too "loud" would cause it to underperform? I'm struggling to find an example of an otherwise flawlessly crafted pop song that flopped because it was too loud. And don't come at me with that Perfect Illusion example. We all know that Perfect Illusion underperformed because of it's undeniably lackluster chorus (just like G.U.Y.) which was also only 16 seconds long. Diamond Heart's chorus is far superior (dare I say, one of Gaga's best) and 30 seconds long. Also the track modulates between soft and loud which allows the audience to breathe. If anything, Diamond Heart's loudness is an asset because in combination with the lyrics, it's anthemic and tells a story. Nothing on the radio right now has quite the anthemic quality that Diamond Heart has. Don't you just want to belt along with Gaga as she bellows the chorus? lego 44,165
Talking about too explicit... Despite censorship and airplay issues, an edited version of the song's music video received ample airplay on North American music channels, fueling its popularity there. The single eventually reached number 2 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, the week of 8 August 1987, behind "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" by U2. Moreover, the single remained in the top 10 for six weeks and the top 40 for a total of 14 weeks, becoming one of the most popular dance-pop singles of the summer of 1987. .... Nearly all of the lyrics in DIC are metaphors and they direct ones arent that bad, literally the only one being her saying 'i touch myself' twice in the song. I just dont get the argument tbh. Kids arent gonna listen to DIC and be like 'omg this dirty song' they wont even realise the significance of some of the phrasing Gaga uses. There are TONS of sexual innuendo songs that are successful. It just depends on how they are marketed. S&M by Rihanna Whistle by Flo Rida etc Even Gaga had LoveGame which is FAR more 'explicit' than DIC. Like i get the argument that DIC is more of a slight risk than her other choices but i dont think its as bad as people here make out imo 6 hours ago, ItsAnthonyz said: Cmon like the most of the kids dont even know what masturbation is so i dont get it why we are allways hitting shade at DIC... Second , so many people masturbate so it could speak for everyone ! And by the way , gaga had more controversial and sexual and direct songs and nobody even gave a **** about it! So why is everybody yelling at thos song? Look, I like DIC and I'm here for DIC being a single, but let's be real - it most likely will flop. There still is a stigma about Lady Gaga, and there still seems to be some sort of double standard when it comes to her.
Zorrotek 282
any song would do as long as the MV would be great. Idc about the charts - all I care about is the visuals.

Yeah i do get what your saying, it would depend on radio support and radio do seem to have this weird Gaga boycott at the moment. My comments were just more specifically about the 'DIC is explicit' thing, didnt mean to come off as a rant towards you by the way!
