Was BTW the reason ARTPOP flopped?

Maybe as a fan back then you'd see Judas as a flop but it really was a hit and everyone, basically everyone knows it. It's iconic.

I'm not trying to troll it's just a fact that everyone I know loved the song back then and would bop to it today as well

It wasn't even a hit. It reached 10 on the HOT100 in its first week due to its sales and then it tanked. People only know about the song due to its name or maybe video. Most people didn't even bother listening. People you know =/= the public. Everything after Judas just went downhill. But ARTPOP's numbers happened mostly because of Gaga's pretentious and off-putting attitude and messy promo, not necessarily because of Judas/BTW era

I just don't understand how it's considered a flop though :\

you & i and mtn were less successful. Maybe they sold more but judas is more well known and remembered.

Judas was bigger then MTN and You and i WW while You and i is bigger in US then judas.

Judas had very moderate succes in Europe, tanked in the US. Y&I was a hit in the US while it pretty much tanked in Europe

Well okay. Maybe that's the case in the US. In Israel Judas is one of her biggest hits.

she did sell BTW for .99c on Amazon in the first week though..

It was amazon's decision + only 440k were sold that way. That makes the album debut with at least 600k+. Besides, I think it's safe to say that at least half of the people that bought it that way would've bought the album anyway. BTW's numbers are huge

over exposure, it was madness launching BTW whilst touring the previous album.  They should have held the album for a year and then released it.

with ARTPOP- she rush released Applause, seemingly because Katy Perry released Roar, shot herself in the foot in doing so and then made some very poor decisions- R Kelly was not a good move, the album was overhyped (by Gaga) and the world at large lost interest/ got fed up with her

here in the UK that persists- Million Reasons has to date been ignored and the album has slipped quickly into the bargain bin- a shame as its a fine album,  the upside is that there will be less demand for tickets on the tour and she may play smaller venues

I think she started to distance herself from the pop world during the end of BTW, she said herself she wanted to seem ugly and I think people got overwhelmed by her weirdness and they just didn't care any more and people didn't want to associate themselves with her. Also her hip broke so she was quiet for ages and people didn't know why and then when she came back she released a song about living for the Applause and no one can relate to that and then she started talking about art non-stop so people again couldn't relate to her and they thought she was pretentious. Also the ARTPOP era and campaign wasn't great (the music wasn't her best either) and her manager left her. So ARTPOP didn't sell really well.

When you look back on it all and what happened ARTPOP still had good sales and yeah she flopped but tbh it was a good flop, some artists can't sell what Gaga sold even when she flopped

I was thinking about this yesterday and this is what I think:

gaga was in the spotlight for her first two albums and gained a lot of sales and as we all know, both albums were very GP friendly and were full of bops and relatable songs. Because of this, people are more likely to buy her next album, which was born this way.

However, BTW isn't as GP friendly as her last albums or not as relatable, look at Americano or Black jesus, these aren't relatable songs. Because of this, a lot of people who bought the album weren't as satisfied as they were previously.

Therefore, when her next album ARTPOP was released, people didn't buy it as her last album wasn't as GP friendly.

she kind of needs continuous streaks of GP albums to keep high sales going

Born This Way, Judas, The Edge of Glory and to lesser extent You And I. The tour was obviously HUGE and by far more successful than TFM ball (don't believe me? look at the stats)

You realize you and I was like twice as big as Judas

I swear in the U.K it wasn't, I remember everyone falling in love with Judas when it was first released and everyone playing it nonstop. When You and I was released I remember no one caring about it apart from die hard Gaga fans
