OMonster 14,573
I am so proud of Gaga and all that she has achieved this year. She has found herself. She is finally recovering after years of putting US before her stability. Personally and mentally, Gaga's achievements have been incredible... all whilst retaining professional success, too. 2016 is the year that Gaga broke history; broke records; cemented and secured her icon status. Subjectivity aside - whether you like her current direction or not - this is the year where Lady Gaga objectively achieved far and beyond her contemporaries; regardless of what any chart or poll suggests. She is now not just 'another pop-girl' - she is a legend. Becoming the first artist in history to ever perform at the Superbowl, Grammy's and Oscar's all in the same year is alone a huge honour. But she didn't stop there. 2016 is the year where Gaga became THE most successful female artist of this decade, securing four consecutive #1 albums on the BillBoard Hot 100. That is incredible for an artist who is so genre-bending and ever-changing. Joanne is also the second biggest female album of the year, which is remarkable for a record that not only lacks in a hit single but sports a sound potentially polarising to the mainstream. Musically, she is writing material that is helping her recovery. And in turn, her musicianship has meant that she has finally been able to open up to us about her mental health; her PTSD; her industry exploitation and her traumatic sexual assault. This is not an era (yet, anyway) of extravaganza... this is an era of healing. I am so proud of her for dedicating an album to recovery. I don't think some monsters truly understand that Gaga NEEDS this time. In order for her to keep going, for her to not quit the show; Joanne needed to happen. This is the era that allowed for her to keep her career going. And for that, we must be grateful. Gaga is still Gaga. She just needed a break from the world she created. She still has a lot to give - possibly more than we could ever imagine - and I believe that, when we look back, Joanne is what will power her future success (not musically or artistically, but mentally and personally). Joanne has (or ultimately will) save Gaga. 2016 has been an incredible year for our queen. I believe this is the year where she grabbed hold of the snake (in her own words) and will now not be letting go. Entering 2017 with the Half Time SuperBowl gig is testament to her talent, her commitment and her long-term vision. Gaga is just getting started. I am so excited to see her future achievements... acting, singing, writing, producing, fashion, designing... the list is endless. Happy New Year Little Monsters and let's take this moment to appreciate our incredible icon, Lady Gaga subtext / fantasy

How could we? We weren't responsible for it, as such - of course we weren't. But Gaga did sacrifice her life for us. I truly believe she started her career for herself... she had all this passion, talent and ambition and just ran with it. When she connected so deeply with us though, I think it all changed. I think the love, acceptance and freedom she found in having us and finding her voice; her place in this world, put a lot of pressure on her. That pressure wasn't our fault, though. We were / are just very committed fans. It was no one's fault. She just felt a great, overwhelming responsibility to be our queen (in her own words) and to be everything she thought we wanted her to be: a pop queen, a 'fierce' icon, a fearless diva. And over the years she has put that mission before her own health, I believe. I think this time round, though, she is realising that she can be both. She can be true to herself, be healthy and be happy - yet still also be the queen in the eyes of her TRUE fans. subtext / fantasy

Ronk 14,485
Very beautiful post. Gaga indeed deserves our support, appreciation, understanding, and love. It's scary how close we came to losing Gaga. There is a video that put together her words over the last few years, and it's clear that she will no longer bow to industry demands that ask her to be anything except herself or do anything she doesn't want to do. I am so happy she is saving herself and is taking herself off the treadmill that killed Marilyn Monroe (ref. to Elton's song Goodbye Norma Jean). This is the video that reveals the change Gaga has been going through the past couple years: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-skCQdrVwVA I live outside the space time continuum. I am so glad you linked to the full. Gaga is an incredible, incredible woman. When you just take a step back and think of who she is, what she has achieved and what she stands for... there will never be another Lady Gaga. Ever. I love how she says that she will always be true to herself 'in this moment'. It's something a lot of monsters should pay attention to, right? She never 'lied' and was never part of the machine (yes, she felt it going that way but took control of the beast before it controlled her). Her visuals and creativity was always her. It's just, right now, in this moment of Joanne, she wants something different. And she's staying true to herself in committing to that difference, and not letting record executives or fans make her represent anything other than that. She - as a person and artist - hasn't changed at all. Her vision has for just this current time. subtext / fantasy

This exactly. The person will never change because it is built into her character to be a kind and caring person dedicated to helping others. The vision of the creative artist will always evolve and change. I live outside the space time continuum.
