Poor single choices sabotaging Gaga's eras

Nope it's more down to the fact people in general have a perception of her and she's making music that's not trendy. Pure and simple.

Had Joanne had a single that was made with Major Lazer and was a generic tropical house style pop song she'd have had a hit

Do you really think venus would have done well though? Applause made more sense to me, People tend to forget that Applause had longevity on the top ten and did well on radio too.

I agree.  Applause was the right first single.

There was Gaga fatigue after a few of her pretentious interviews during Born This Way.  I just think some of it was backlash to Gaga herself.

Exactly.:golfclap: People forget how overexposed she was at the time, It was bound to creep up on her eventually. The fact that Applause was able to stay on the charts for so long despite backlash showed it was the right choice in the end.

More like bad management. If she got managed by Troy Carter still, i bet Joanne would easily be the best selling album for few months.

It isn't so much that the singles are bad but more about how they are managed and promoted. Her team has been a complete mess for years now. Also it doesn't help that radios don't support her. There was decent promo for MR and if it was done by TS or Adele, it would be playing non stop

Full agreed. If it was Adele, it's a number 1 for sure. People could relate to her for songs like that.

I completely agree with the OP about everything. 100% accurate. Although with Joanne I can't see any of the tracks bring "lead" singles lol. Tragic. I think ARTPOP should have been called Gypsy and the lead single should have been Gypsy as well.

Ever since Judas, Gaga's single choices have been missing the mark. The Edge of Glory would've easily been a number one song if Gaga's momentum hadn't been stalled by a minor flop that was Judas. At the time it was very rare for a new Gaga song not be played all over the radio but I rarely heard Judas and after a month or so it seemed to be completely out of rotation. Yoü and I was a hit in some areas, but wasn't the strongest contender for a fourth Born This Way single, and by the time Marry The Night came the era had lost its steam.

The first song we heard from the ARTPOP album was the leaked demo for Aura, which is to this day one of Gaga's strongest songs. But soon after we get Applause, a predictable and unrelatable track that doesn't pick up as much traction as Gaga's past singles. The single choices after this were spot on, but Applause obviously didn't do enough to sell ARTPOP to listeners. Both DWUW and GUY were good single choices, but the bad press and DWUW music video fiasco which halted streaming led to a truncated era.

Then comes Perfect Illusion, Gaga's comeback single. After hearing it my expectations for Joanne lowered, but after hearing the album in its entirety I realized that Gaga picked one of the most middle-of-the-road and random tracks to be her lead single. So far Gaga has released two songs from Joanne and neither singles were home runs. If Gaga had chosen different lead singles for the last two eras we'd probably be in a way different predicament.

:sharon:

Aura would have flopped hard, the first minute is not radio friendly at all, if this was changed then perhaps because the chorus is pretty catchy.

Applause did great, it reached 4 on BBHot100 and had a lot of radio play

GUY was THE worst single choice in her entire career, none of my friends liked it, a few even laughed at it, this is more hnrelatable than Applause, can you imagine people singing 'I wanna be that guy'?

But what's done is done and I'm happy with what we got :)

Aura would've smashed imo. But honestly there's no way of knowing now, but it's obvious that the overall single choosing over the last few eras has been flawed.
