Perfect Illusion should not have been the lead single.

I don't give a fùck about what the "gee pee" would have loved. I love Perfect Illusion so I'm happy I have a MV for it and some professionally recorded live performances. That's what matters for me.

Stop hating on PI, geez. Have you guys considered the fact that no matter what she used as lead was bound to underperform because of the amount of backlash she had from the past three years? Something had to be the sacrificial lamb to transition into a better single.

And the better single is...? :trollga:

Commercially I think Applause was a good lead single. If it wasn't released the same time as Roar it might have even gone top.3

And radio-wise it became even a bigger hit than Bad Romances so yeah....

Weren't people saying the only reason Applause had higher AI is because more radio stations were added so it wasn't fair to compare it to Bad Romance?

Either way, I wasn't surprised. Applause is a song you listen to, Bad Romance is a video you watch.

perfect illusion is perfect lead single choice, not her fault the gp has such a poor taste in music and dont appreciate the bop that is PI
the electric guitar intro alone is better than MR and Ayo combined :sure:
and thats on that

Spill the t.

It was perfect for me. I don't really like A-YO and Dancin' in Circles anyway and they're too basic. Maybe Diamond Heart to do something big. But nothing else.

They wanted a pop/rock song to showcase JOANNE. all i can say. Gaga and HAUS + label decided. aYO was 3 then MR was 3.:classy:

It definitely would've gone top 3 because Roar was one of the songs above it when it peaked at 4

PI was the most 'gaga-esque' song on Joanne, so it could be seen as having the most hit potential, but something like MR, or DH or even JW could have been a different take on gaga, but we can never know the GP reaction..

It wasn't a good lead single because it was more on the experimental side compared to more radio friendly songs. They probably really believed in the song so they went for it but I guess the GP didn't feel it.

If they were gonna give the lead single a radio deal then they should have picked a more radio friendly lead single.

I personally think it was a bad choice because I think its the best song on the album so I was disappointed that there wasn't a song better than pi
