Perfect Illusion should not have been the lead single.

This is kind of gonna be a rant so yeah...

I think PI was a really bad choice as the lead single. "The world" was ready for a Gaga "comeback". Everyone was hyping it. Media had been only praising Gaga for the least year. Even though she hadn't been part of the pop scene for 3 years she had build momentum. Radio was anticipating the single, saying it was gonna bring Gaga "back to her throne" and what not. And radio did actually support Perfect Illusion when it first came out. But it backfired to them cause the GP was clearly not here for the song.

The lead from Joanne should have been one of these songs:

A-Yo (it's very catchy, it has that Up-Town Funk and Shake It Off kinda feel, both really big hits. Radio would have eaten it up and so would have most of the GP. With some strong promo Gaga could have definitely gotten a top.5~top.10 hit out of it.)

Million Reasons (it would have caused some "controversy" in the fanbase for being a ballad and there would be some talk around Gaga "coming back" with a ballad, but THIS SONG has IT. The public CLEARLY really really likes it and radio would have obviously supported it. A good video and this songs was gonna be a sure top.5 hit.

Dancin' In Circles (this is my personal favorite. It's the only song on Joanne that has the tropical feel which is so liked now days. It gets stuck on your mind with only a listen. With a collab it would have been HUGE. Honestly such a missed opportunity.)

Disclaimor: I REALLY LIKE Perfect Illusion. But because of it being chosen as the lead, now the whole era is "suffering" commercially, and radios are afraid to spin Million Reasons regularly. It was just a very bad choice for the first single.

I LOOOOOOOOOOVE Perfect Illusion, but I really wonder what would happen if Dancin' in Circles would be the lead single... I have a feeling it would smash beyond belief, but there's still that little thing saying it would tank harder than PI :saladga:

MR should have been the lead and GGD would crash from the meltdowns but it would become a massive hit and y'all would suddenly love it :gaycat:

THERE'S NO WAY it would have tanked harder than PI. Even without a collab. And you know it :trollga:

I'm 100% sure but I'm not, I mean it's Gaga and c'mon, did we really all think she would have this grand comeback despite whatever the first single would be? ARTPOP is constantly in my mind, and not in a bad way, let's not forget she literally made a '**** you' video to the whole industry.

Gaga Monster

She screwed up big time with PI. Everyone was ready for the return of Gaga and she screwed it up, could potentially be career ending since radio is hesitant of Gaga now and she is basically dead on streaming.

Ever since Born This Way, they have shown poor judgment in debut single choices.

Commercially I think Applause was a good lead single. If it wasn't released the same time as Roar it might have even gone top.3

And radio-wise it became even a bigger hit than Bad Romances so yeah....

PI is a great club banger, whereas Million Reasons is very radio friendly. If they had both been released as lead singles, I think things may have worked out better because they would have balanced each other out. But hey, what happened happened and we should be greatful for a beautiful album and lead single.

Applause was the only good lead single.

Mrs. Caca's career found dead in a ditch, re-evaluation process started.
