My friend was on mushrooms the first time she heard it. She cried and thought it was the devil's music. She has since changed her mind.

The song would have done better with a different music video imo. The biblical theme would have passed as a metaphor, had she not been stoned to death portraying Mary Magdalene.

It was all just too much.

The problem with BTW the single was that it paved the way for cute, 'love yourself' music, which was a complete contrast to the sound of BTW the album.

Lets face it, if everybody loved BR they could have just as easily loved Judas. Wrong single choices, wrong video and general overexposure meant that the song couldn't achieve the heights it was destined for.

The truest tragedy of her career.

There was many reasons, i believe. While the controversy and lack of hitness is often overplayed, there are obvious problems.

Judas was first leaked, then released ahead of schedule, during good Friday/aster. And that is a worldwide problem as Christianity is more widespread than America. Also considering the fact it's more than Christianity that has th story of Jesus and Judas... Yeah. The Abrahamic religions didn't like Gaga in the BTW (which also had Bloody mary, Electric Chapel, and many other religious references).

Also, it is basically bad Romance 2.0 but without the success (though let;s remember, Bad Romance was never no. 1 either).

Gaga's Rihanna like cadence in the song is probably also a factor worth mentioning as well. Many people commented on how they thought the song was by Rihanna. I honestly wished Rihanna would cover it.

Gaga also had an enormous case of overexposure and honestly the single releases for BTW were hot mess until after the album was released.

well it doesn't help it didn't get a chance since Interscope moved onto TEOG as soon as they saw it sold when it was released as a promo single (24 days as a single is extremely short)

A lot of y'all are reaching. The song is pretty bad. Point blank

The only reason it did top 10 was because her name was attached to it and it was dropped before the album. That's why it sank like an anchor after that.

The video is one of her best though.

in my opinion it was due to:

1# weak song itself, it felt not fresh or anything, Elton John described it as a carbon copy of Bad Romance, so basically far from fresh and exciting and that's really what it is, in its core a song about an unhealthy relationship

2# the leak

3# the cheap assed cover (made with a bad phone camera...seriously)

4# the promo, it did get promo but imo it wasn't executed well

I wouldn't say its bad, its just too "hard" with the EDM beat. Kinda similar to Aura.

It's a mess tbh. The song is loud with odd verses. At that point Scheiße would've been a better choice since it had a better redone production and the faux German was kinda it's catchphrase, plus it was easier to relate to.

I went to a gay club last night and it was the only Gaga song that the DJ played along with it's video. On other nights the DJ also plays Bad Romance or Perfect Illusion.

I remember a good chunk of fans (not a majority, but a good chunk) being turned off by how similar it sounded to Bad Romance. For a while, I was a bit in their boat, too.

However, after a while, it really was the perfect end to the Poker Face-Bad Romance-Judas trilogy. Like, each song got more intense and obnoxious until it finally culminated to its peak.

Incredible song, and incredible video.

3 points in and ready for more
