Why Million Reason's Video HAD To Be Basic

I admit, when the MR video first came out, I was pretty mad that she didnt elaborate on the moon/nature aesthetic. I imagined her in a long floral dress in a golden field under a full moon.... but thats besides the point :unicorn:

In my opinion, Perfect Illusion is about the music industry, not love - and everything about it was an illusion. Like, she thought fame would be great, but this idea of fame wasn't real. So, she escapes and I guess gets high on drugs, creating the illusion concert. Then she is found by her staff and returned back to her dressing room. Back to the music industry.

Now here is why MR Can't have a stunning high-budget video. The point of MR is that she is trying to think of a reason to stay in the industry, after all the criticism. After all, the Joanne MV's are connected, and they are autobiographical. So gaga returns to the industry, and maybe the Apple Music backdrop is a symbol of how she's once again being used to make money, representing a company for their profits, etc. She sings in very simple clothes, and in the video its almost like she's filming an ad. Maybe she purposefully used the apple music backdrop to create a metaphor that the industry is using her as a symbol to make money. If she went with another concept, like the field of grass, the story would be different.

Maybe the people who got her are her fans, and hugging her is the only reason she's staying.

And now the story ends at her filming an ad in her studio, in the pink outfit. After the criticism, she decides to return and to prove herself to her critics. Therefore, A-YO would be a great single, picking up at where she left off in the storyline. Maybe the video will be about her in the studio recording her authentic self or a video of her performing in a dive bar, showing the critics that THIS is who she is.

So there it is, while many including me are kinda dissapointed by the Million Reasons video, I think that she knows she could do much better but it just wouldnt fit the narrative she's trying to tell.

Eh, nothing ever HAS to be basic. If anything, that's the opposite of the logic the Gaga I fell in love with had. But I'm reminded she's long gone.

I think we should just accept the fact that this is not a visual era. Move on... The music is good.

She is still young and many new eras might come. :flop:

Well, I think the point of MR was to be stripped down. But once she starts getting into the other singles, things will pick up. Just watching the VS fashion show I can see the old gaga, and I would say PI wasn't that basic.

Maybe, but if she's makign the videos connected... then I feel like the visuals will pick up later in the "Storyline"

When I think of a Lady Gaga music video, the word basic never came to mind.  But now that's what I expect from her :wtf:

It's not basic at all. It's one of her best. It did not need a circus. I find it basic probably to people who aren't very emotional and cannot completely connect to the song.

the fact that we are admitting it IS basic and we are just dealing with it:madge:

WE DON'T CARE IF THE VIDEO WAS SIMPLE, WE JUST WANTED IT TO BE PROFESSIONALLY DONE WHICH IT WAS NOT.

I wouldn't say it HAD to be BASIC I just think it was more expected seeing as it is A ballad and having over the top visuals would have overshadowed the songs meaning and intention. That isn't to say that she couldn't have showcased a lot more with the story it felt A bit rushed. I hope this era has at least one music video with aesthetically pleasing visuals especially with songs like Ayo, Diamond Heart, And Dic.

I wasn't expecting an extravagant video but I was also not expecting what she gave us.  idc if it was basic i get thats what she wanted and that's what people seem to not understand thats not why i was disappointed but who cares im not a "true fan" anyways

Edit: not necessarily directed to you

Basic doesn't mean poorly shot.

Describe to me how it was poorly shot... I'm seriously not that technical with things so I couldn't tell.

I think it feels authentic... maybe that's what you mean?

One, five, ten lay a million on me
