Although the idea of stoning someone to death may appear so ancient as to evoke a biblical theme,

it is unfortunately very much a modern-day reality in the world today.

Do you think this music video scene might be insensitive to real victims of stoning?

Only much as scenes depicting shootings might seem insensitive to real victims of shooting.

It's a depiction of a biblical reality in the music video for a song that made very strong, overt references to biblical stories.

Exactly. When did people become so insensitive about things like that, but still make people like Banks and Minaj famous?

I was shocked when I first saw it (like I was with the whole video) but I never really thought it's offensive.. it's a MV based on biblical events not on today's reality

I actually find it to be quite a beautiful scene.

If you look at Gaga's character to also be a metaphor of the "innocent/rare/different". It turns into a strong political/historical message.

Sadly the general public has never put much thought into why Gaga's videos appeared "weird". So stuff like this scene was probably seen as nothing but "another random scene". :fthis:                     (which you could even tie the stoning scene to. "People will be quick to throw stones at stuff they don't understand")

Is Bad Romance insensitive to victims of the slave trade?

Is Paparazzi insensitive to victims of domestic abuse?

Is Telephone insensitive to victims of mass murder?

But is burning a man alive offensive to burn victims? We could go on and on.

Purr more, hiss less.

Is this a joke? You usually don't survive stoning, so how did they watch a MV?

People who wake up in the morning and have to live under this type of law might mind.

Exactly, they have much harder problems to face.

I doubt they've even seen her videos, besides, if their government is as harsh and strict as to have stoning as a punishment, Gaga's probably banned.

Purr more, hiss less.

It may be + I get what you mean, but I really don't think people in those countries sit around watching MTV. Besides, if it really was that offensive I think we would've heard about it and they would cut that scene when playing it on TV.
