toanythingtaboo 5
The thing is, most of the protests won't come close to being powerful enough to cancel the show. They're just going to get media coverage off the back of the more threatening/impacting protests (like here in Indonesia) and appear more extreme than reality. If Gaga does indeed go ahead with the Jakarta show and it's a bit of an anti-climax of controversy, the media will be less interested in future protests...cutting down on exposure during Gaga's break. If threats of 30k protestors doesn't get the show cancelled, a random small conservative Christian group in x, y, z won't even be a blip on the radar. Morina 0
It's not up to Lady Gaga to change Indonesia or their ways, and it's not her responsibility to make a statement. If their culture is moving backwards, that's their own problem. She shouldn't be involved, she's a pop star, not a President. She's not a president. True. But she is more than just a pop star. That much is obvious. She influences change all over the world. Thats why I feel she needs to stand up to these groups. If she was "just" a pop star this wouldnt be a big deal. doll 0
No worries, they don't have guns. Guns are prohibited for sales in Indonesia. One must go through very strict psycho test before they have license to own one, and that even only under circumstances they really need one. Oh, that's good news!

Karl 3,419
I love how ironic the fact they want to "kill the b---h" is considering the story of the Born This Way Ball :lolgaga:

Nissa 51
1) What a ****ing power-play mindgame this is if they do want her to hold the concert after all - was this refusing to give her a permit just one big display of dominance and "authority" on the government/police's part, then, instead of an actual issue? If this is the case a big "**** you, no thanks" from Gaga for yanking her around on a chain and intentionally leaving everything up in the air while creating this macho power display might be in order, even if there weren't such huge issues concerning her safety and the fans' safety. Although Gaga herself will probably not see it this way (since it's a given she'd do practically anything to go), you just don't do that to a person of Gaga's caliber and prominence. She's got more important things to do than watching petty bureaucratic mindgames being played out in front of her about one date of her enormous world tour. 2) I think it's quite obvious (with the way they've treated the issue up until now) that both police forces are NOT going to help her, they've made it very clear with their official statements, their "evaluating the permit", the "re-evaluating", etc. If local and national police don't stand behind her 100%, those fundamentalist terrorist groups practically have free reign. This is obviously one of the biggest reasons this damn thing needs to be cancelled. So since official instances have either displayed complete apathy towards threats of violence and threats on Gaga's LIFE or have been negative about her coming to Jakarta as well, why should she go? If officials AND terrorist organizations seem to partially agree she's the devil's spawn then the danger is much, much bigger than previously anticipated. No privately hired security team would have more knowledge about the ins and outs of the city, the groups in questions, which people to look out for, etc. than Java's own police force. This is just NOT feasible. Sorry for those who bought tickets but it has become more and more obvious how incredibly dangerous this is and I hope these people actually value Gaga's own safety more than getting to see her. This whole situation is so ridiculous I can't... She just can't go, period. - On a different note my mind has wandered off to Bali several times during this whole thing because I keep remembering it as the place I went to in 1999, not the one it's become. I keep thinking that if she needed to go to Indonesia, the best place to pick would be Bali - it used to be one only Indonesian location that did not house that many Islamist groups and had a big mix of religions in parliament and the general population (it used to be the "safest" travel destination in the area for Western tourists, visiting any other island was always warned against). ...Then the 2002 bombings targeting nightclubs in the tourist district of Kuta happened, which turned out to be the the deadliest act of terrorism in the history of Indonesia, killing 202 people (including 88 Australians, and 38 Indonesian citizens). Another 240 people were injured. These attacks happened because the people inside these nightclubs were, according to records left by the bombers, Westerners engaging in and promoting "immoral" anti-Islamic behavior (drinking alcohol, wearing "revealing" clothing, dancing provocatively, engaging in s-xual encounters with people they were not married to, playing music-that-aren't-Islamic-hymns, etc.). This is not bigotry, this is reality: Islamist terrorist organizations have made the once-relatively-peaceful Indonesia incredibly dangerous even for regular Western visitors. And now people still want Gaga to go there, after specific fundamentalist groups have made threats on her life? Madness. It's not a matter of scaring her off. I don't agree with fans making this out to be some massive battle. It's a matter of safety. Exactly.
Arizonadream777 184
This. You wonder why It annoys me that she's performing in these places. One of the the things I like about Gaga is how brave she is. But in a case like this I wish she wasn't so brave. Just worried about her.

And now people still want Gaga to go there, after specific fundamentalist groups have made threats on her life? Madness. Exactly. Correction, the notes was just justification on their part. The real issues was because Aussies are one of biggest supporter of USA who that time were ruled by G.W.Bush. who declaring war with Afghanistan. And the bomb terrors during early 2000s was led by Malaysian citizens, (Azahari Husin and Noordin M Top) as part of Al Qaeda links in South East Asia and creating chaos in the Indonesian land because Indonesia is the most respected among another in the SEA and they wanted coverage on news. Indonesian Moslem are moderate. Even some of the respected imam are of Chinese descent. But influence from purist/puritans from outside like Malaysia has since stained the Moslem teaching in Indonesia.
