You mean that police could be replaced by the military (temporarily)? Or you mean a military junta (government takeover) that's happening for other reasons?

If you mean that the military would be partly responsible for ensuring Gaga and the fans' safety (just for this instance of course) that'd be a huuuge relief.

What i mean is the latter one, the security for the country will be handed over to Military just like it used to be,

if the Police proven not able to handle the situation they're in right now.

But if this problem can be resolved very soon, then they might out of trouble.

And did the military threaten them just because of the permit issue?

From my understanding, there didn't used to be a separation of Military and Police in Indonesia until relatively recently, when it was decided to split the functions so that Police concentrate on civilian matters. There has been ongoing political dogfighting between the police and military ever since, apparently.

Thank you both for your answers! That clarifies a lot...

Yall are so damn overly worried.

Please, don't tell me you think the only weapon of assault that gets used by terror organizations or even just "inventive" citizens are sniper rifles? :fail: There are effing instructions on the net how to make a bomb in your own kitchen. And it doesn't seem like the police would be interested in providing the absolutely airtight protection she'd need (they don't seem to care in the slightest, tbh, it's like they're more concerned about Gaga's "blasphemy"). Hired security is always less effective than the police forces of that particular area who know what and whom to look out for, etc.

Um no.... you guys are seriously overly worried. Am i the only one here not worried at all? Jesus, i really can't with half of the people here.

Luckily there will be no Monster Pit at the Jakarta show

Nope. But there is Golden circle.

It is similar to Monster Pit but you have to pay for it, not free queue.

I'm not some heartless b---h, i worry too but i'm not going to be dramatic about it and talk about how she could get shot during government hooker or pokerface etc. I'm being optimistic about the whole situation :crossed:

Let's be real: She could be killed at any time -- like any of us could, for that matter -- especially anytime she's in a crowd of fans pressing around her. Which is all the time. Are these Indonesian blowhards really any more dangerous? I'm not convinced they are. But what I am convinced of: If the concert doesn't go on, they win. And that's a bad thing.

Govt asks National Police to reconsider Gaga concert

The government has asked the National Police to look again at the ongoing controversy over US singer Lady Gaga’s planned concert in Jakarta, a senior minister says.

Coordinating Political, Legal, and Security Affairs Minister Djoko Suyanto said on Sunday that the government had asked National Police chief Gen. Timur Pradopo to end the dispute over Gaga’s concert by providing a “win-win solution†for both parties.

“The Police could put an end to the heated situation by mediating between the concert promoter and the protesters so that the show can go on under certain terms and conditions,†he told The Jakarta Post.

Gaga, was slated to perform at Bung Karno Stadium in Senayan, Central Jakarta on June 3. However the Jakarta Police said that they would recommend the National Police not to issue a permit for the performance.

Article 15 of the 2002 Police Law stipulates that it is the National Police who have the authority "to issue a permit for, and monitor activities, involving crowds".

The artist, known for her racy persona and costumes, has sparked protests from hard-line groups in the country.

Commenting on this, Djoko, a former military chief, said that the National Police could seek a compromise from the local promoter, Big Daddy Entertainment, for a compromise whereby Gaga’s management was asked to tone down her “Unusual appearance†while performing in the capital.

“Her costumes, dance choreography, dancers and songs must fit in with our current social conditions, the terms and conditions must be set out in a written agreement,†he said.

Separately, the National Police’s Brig. Gen. Mohammad Taufik, was quoted by tempo.co as saying that his office would study all the requirements that the promoter had to meet to hold the concert in Jakarta.

He added that, aside from a recommendation from the Jakarta authorities, other requirements needed to hold a concert included an authorization from the Tourism and Creative Economy Ministry.

“Other requirements include a concert permit from the Bung Karno Stadium office and a license from the Immigration Office for the foreign artist to come to Indonesia,†he said.

Exactly.

EDIT: Oh, looks like we were due for another "maybe". :fail: And there are the "terms and conditions" again so "everybody will be satisfied". **** that. The Indonesian officials (police and government) seem to be almost just as bad as the organizations who've been threatening her, or they just don't dare or can't speak up against fundamentalists.

It looks to me like the police definitely feel threatened by the fundamentalists, well, thats the impression I'm getting. Which just makes me fear for her (and the fans) safety a bit more. The police don't seem to be taking this as seriously as they should be.

100% agreed. I think it's probably intimidation and that makes the whole situation more frightening than when the threats started. Privately hired security can't do as much as police forces from the area can. So the security situation will never be optimal if she were to go (except maybe if she receives military assistence like oom.chianti said was a possibility), which is something Gaga desperately needs after continuously receiving these kinds of threats.
