Victoria Lavelle Michaels 1
Joannester, Happy Holidays? First, I have to ask if you are transgender? My name is Ms Victoria Michaels (former Miss Florida 2007-2014) and Transgender Editorial Colimnist & Investigative Reporter At SOUTH FLORIDA GAY NEWS. I moved back home to Wilmington , De to return to college to finish out my degree in "Communication in Journalism & Radio" at Delaware County College. I am transgender M2F. I respect your opinions that you posted, however, if you don't identify as transgender, then your postings are exactly as I originally suggested, "OPINIONS." I want to clarify that You (and everyone else) are entitled to have an opinion. However, if you haven't lived life as a transgender child, then I think it's only fair if you remain less opinionated on a subject in which you know very little about. FACT! I knew at 4 years old that I was a girl on the inside, despite my parents telling me otherwise. My father got so frustrated one day that he picked me up and slammed me down on the kitchen counter yelling at Me and threatening to take me to the doctor to have my male anatomy "cut off." It was a scare tactic he attempted to use to "scare me straight" Well, my father was really shocked when I begged him to please take Me to the doctor and have me changed to a girl. He wasn't prepared to here me say that. ((((obviously))) I have one brother who is a year older (Irish Twins) and I had a Mom & Dad. I feel the need to express this so that you will understand there was plenty of testosterone and "male figures" in the home. Though I know it wasn't your stance, so I say this for other readers. FACT: There are laws in place that prohibit parents & doctors from giving children hormone therapy at young ages, so what's wrong with allowing a young transchild dress the gender in which they identify with. Furthermore, parents are NOT permitted to have any surgical procedures performed on a child in transition so in short, everything at that age through age 18 is reversible ! Exactly for the reasons you have posted on this website! What you have posted is misleading! No child I repeat no child is granted permission from a doctor or a surgeon to have a complete transition or even a partial transition. I see nothing wrong with a male to female trans child being able to grow their hair out long and wear a dress. Your postings are irresponsible and obviously lack knowledge associated with this sensitive topic. Now, I can assure You that I knew I was a "girl" and not a "boy" at age 4. MY LIFE THROUGH SCHOOL WAS PURE HELL. I was tormented, beat up, bullied, the outcast, and labeled every gay slur that kids at that age aren't even aware of their definitions (regarding slurs). But one thing is for sure, I knew how much those slurs hurts because of the nature in which they were spoken to Me. Those words were like weapons, and had my parents known back in the 70's & 80's what "transgender" meant, perhaps they could have gotten me the help I needed to transition, because after 4 failed suicide attempts, I was forced by psychologist to accept that I was "GAY" and not "TRANS!" When everything and every aspect of your life relates to girl things that does not define you as gay. It defines you as transgender. This has nothing to do with whether or not a boy wants to have friends that are girls. Those remarks are absurd. After all it's human nature for boys to want to be with girls who identify as heterosexual For Me, being a trans child in the 1970s and 80s was so tough That's because transgender back in those days wasn't anything society, or doctors were familiar with. It often went undiagnosed. In addition, the few people that were able to find a doctor that knew what transgender was where considered mentally disabled . As scarred and hurt as I was from all the torment, I can say with great certainty that I was not mentally disable. Jannester... I caution you to be very careful posting your opinions on this topic of Transchildren because from what I've read so far of what you have authored, the effect it could have on parents of trans-children could very well be the deciding factor between "life or death." Fact: TRANSGGENDER CHILDRENWHO HAVE PARENTS/FAMILY WHO DONT UNDERSTAND THEM OR ACCEPT THEM BEING TRANS ARE AT VERY HIGH RISK FOR SUICIDE. Also, though I don't believe that your intentions are bad, I feel the overwhelming need to enlighten you to the serious impact of your statements because you're creatingmore harm than good by speaking all this nonsense & rubbish. It's also important for me to note that I not only study journalism in college, but I also am taking extra studies in sociology and psychology. To think that parents of transchildren could read what you have posted and come to the conclusion that they should not help their trans child is sickening & shameful at best. I have heard my own person childhood story echoed it throughout a trans community in which I have been an advocate and activist for for over 25 years. The only one variation is that there are a few minor variations between (female to male) transgender's, and (male to female) transgender's. Throughout my studies I have discovered that female to male transgender's for reasons unknown to me come to the conclusion that they want to transition a bit later in life. My educated guess who that is because society is much more excepting of masculine women then it is of feminine boys! I will not speak any further about female to male transgender's because I have not lived that life so I cannot be the proper spokes person for them I will however defend any child or adult that identifies as male to female transgender because I have lived it. It is not a choice, and yes, boy children know at a very young age when they identify as a girl, and not a boy. So in closing my only respectful remark to you is that YOU ARE SO MISINFORMED AND YOUR POSTINGS ARE "inaccurate irresponsible reckless and just plain wrong "
