Ashley 9,276
Of course it's a personal statement. She grew up Catholic so it's only natural. She may have lost her faith at some point but is finding it again. I'm an atheist but I can respect the fact that for some their belief in God can be a source of strength. Advocating Christian values? Doubtful that Gaga even agrees with most stereotypical "values" anyway.

Lucas 25,898
It's probably just for this era (hopefully). Just like Madonna went from bruning crosses in Like A Prayer and she was super religious during the Ray Of Light era It's just another character she creates to change her image this era
Nemo 4,278
She became more religious some years ago, before/during the Monster Ball -- she talked about it then. But I don't think that necessarily meant a big change, and I don't think we should read too much into the lyrics of MR, or the rosary in the video. If you think that she was mocking religion in BTW, then IMHO you misunderstand it. There's a difference between mockery, and challenging certain tenets, or having unorthodox views. (I say this as an atheist who mocks religion on the regular.) I believe that "God makes no mistakes" was meant very sincerely, and it was a challenge against orthodoxy by a believer. I think we can trust in Gaga to maintain her values -- the things she's always stood for. They're more fundamental than religion.

On the other side, she doesn't need to push her religous imagery down our throats. she isn't tho, she's just sharing her beliefs, not trying to make people christian or whatnot Life has a hopeful undertone |-/

(And they actually consider themselves Christian, which confused me as a kid.) The video is (partly) about racism; that's why the burning crosses are there. There's nothing anti-religious in it, per se -- it's (again) a challenge from a believer.
Edonis 28,950
Y'all have a very black and white stigma when it comes to religion by saying you can't be supportive of LGBT people and still identify with a religion. Interpretation is always more important than how some guy in a white coat tells you to live life in a church. As for her religious side, it's been there since The Fame. I'm confused why guys are just now noticing her religion. She is a bit more public with expression this era but that's to be expected when she's promoting an album about family. And that cross was supposed to be Joanne's cross given to Gaga by Natalie, almost alluding to Joe giving it to Joanne. I hate the video and even I knew that So in short, no. Not really. She's been that way since 2009.

Rockets 1,807
She's always been very religious. I'm from italy and was raised Roman Catholic like her, but even tho I left the church many many years ago I totally respect her beliefs and as a former catholic I know how much a catholic education stays with you even when you change your mind about it as an adult... so I totally understand her. I mean look at Madonna, she had a similar background and through her work you can see a very complicated, love/hate relationship with Christianity. The only difference is that Madonna was excommunicated by the catholic church a bunch of times truly I CO NIC. The only girl I've ever loved was born with roses in her eyes
